PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Larry Haggus (ranked 24199 p4p, 614 weight class) and Padraig Pearse (ranked 24194 p4p, 609 weight class). Padraig Pearse told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Larry Haggus!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Padraig Pearse!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Bishop, James Ackerman and William Gold.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Haggus circles away from the clinch attempt.
Haggus avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Pearse is looking to clinch.
Haggus swung with a counter punch to the body but it didn't connect.
Pearse misses with the body kick

and Haggus counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Pearse looking for a sweep. Not yet Pearse, not yet.
Haggus lands a couple of decent looking shots.
Pearse preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Pearse looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Haggus postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
Haggus passes easily into side control. Nice work.
Haggus works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head.
Haggus in side control lands a nice looking series of punches and elbows.
Haggus has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Haggus looks up at the clock and then as Pearse takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Haggus smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!
Pearse is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Pearse is not in a great position here, taking some shots.

Pearse is not content to let Haggus control the position.

Haggus works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head.
We've been hearing that Haggus has been drilling a lot of ground and pound in training, so let's see if he get the finish.
Pearse tries to improve position but can't.
Pearse is not in a great position here, taking some shots.
Pearse looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
Haggus in side control lands a nice looking series of punches and elbows.
Pearse takes a nasty elbow to the side of the head.


Pearse is rocked!
Pearse tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Haggus wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Haggus wants to control but Pearse is keeping him busy.
Haggus scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at Pearse to see if he's OK.

Haggus is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Pearse knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Pearse takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Pearse seems to have recovered his senses.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

Haggus is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Pearse can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Haggus has control of Pearse's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Pearse regains control of the situation pretty easily.

Whack. That's a big, big shot from Haggus! Pearse is out cold! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:51 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Strikes). Larry Haggus!
A relieved looking Larry Haggus thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
