PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Ronald Wagenknecht (ranked 1533 p4p, 192 weight class) and Eric Van Der Woodsen (ranked 2236 p4p, 258 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Eric Van Der Woodsen!
The judges for this bout are Jack Bonds, and Timothy Bukovac.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Left hook, right uppercut from Wagenknecht.

Van Der Woodsen changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Wagenknecht tries to avoid it but Van Der Woodsen manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Wagenknecht to the ground. Wagenknecht escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Van Der Woodsen enables Wagenknecht to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Van Der Woodsen manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Van Der Woodsen is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Van Der Woodsen doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Van Der Woodsen manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Wagenknecht wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.

Van Der Woodsen is fighting to break Wagenknecht's control of his arms but Wagenknecht is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.

Wagenknecht drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Wagenknecht jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Van Der Woodsen is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Wagenknecht's leg. Oh but that's left an opportunity for Wagenknecht! He's got an arm triangle... it looks tight! He's rotating and Van Der Woodsen has tapped! This one is allllll over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:57 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Arm Triangle). Ronald Wagenknecht!
After winning the bout, Ronald Wagenknecht thanked all his fans and promised he'd do even better in his next fight. The crowd seemed to love his humility.
