The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Makunouchi throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Makunouchi throws an uppercut from half a mile away. McDevlin sees it coming and avoids it easily.
McDevlin misses with a wild combination.
McDevlin dives in and grabs Makunouchi's left leg, looking for a takedown. Makunouchi pushes down on McDevlin's head and hops out.

The referee sends both fighters to their corners and McDevlin has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from McDevlin and we're back underway with a touch of gloves.

I was talking to Makunouchi's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight.
McDevlin is trying to break the clinch but Makunouchi is controlling him.

Makunouchi has McDevlin pressed against the cage, preventing McDevlin from circling away and getting back to striking at range.
McDevlin tries a knee to the head but he's missed.
The pace slowing considerably in the clinch, as Makunouchi takes a break from that fighting nonsense to think about the finer things in life.
Makunouchi is pressed up against the cage. McDevlin has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Makunouchi down to the mat. Makunouchi avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
