Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Cedric Armstrong (ranked 23740 p4p, 0 weight class) and Lee Sakuraba (ranked 6883 p4p, 0 weight class). Sakuraba has chosen Pride Theme Song as his entrance music. Lee Sakuraba has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Cedric Armstrong!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Lee Sakuraba!
The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, Jack Bonds and Frank Antenori.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Armstrong throws a head kick that connects with a bit of head and a bit of hand.
Sakuraba looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight!
Sakuraba tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Armstrong paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Armstrong moves in looking to clinch but Sakuraba pushes him off.

Armstrong pushes Sakuraba up against the cage in a clinch.
Armstrong tries to pull guard but Sakuraba holds him up against the cage and eventually Armstrong drops back down to his feet.

Sakuraba gets control of Armstrong's arms and successfully pulls guard. Sakuraba will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Armstrong slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Armstrong postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Sakuraba controls Armstrong momentarily but Armstrong frees himself.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Armstrong drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Armstrong jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Armstrong wants to stand but Sakuraba is controlling his posture from full guard.
Armstrong has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Sakuraba not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Armstrong slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.

Sakuraba looking for subs off his back but Armstrong has passed one foot through into half guard.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Armstrong is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.
Armstrong thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Sakuraba's head.

Armstrong is working for a submission of some sort.

Armstrong seems to be working for a kimura but Sakuraba defends the submission attempt.

Armstrong seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
Sakuraba is trying to maintain the position but Armstrong is very close to passing his half guard.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Armstrong has Sakuraba up against the cage in a clinch.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Armstrong escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Sakuraba throws a sloppy body shot
and Armstrong counters with a one-two to the body.

Armstrong takes the fight into the clinch.
Sakuraba working hard to break the clinch.

Armstrong manages to pull guard.
Sakuraba wants to control from the top but Armstrong keeps moving.
Sakuraba pushes down on Armstrong's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Armstrong knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Sakuraba on the ground.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Armstrong wants to control but Sakuraba is keeping busy and won't allow it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Cedric Armstrong dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.



Armstrong closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Sakuraba can't break the clinch.
Armstrong manages to get underhooks and slows down the pace for a moment.

Armstrong breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Armstrong looking to score a takedown here. Sakuraba is defending well but Armstrong drives through and ends up in Sakuraba's guard.
Sakuraba has momentary wrist control but Armstrong slips an elbow through the middle.
Armstrong lands a couple of elbows.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Armstrong tries to stand but Sakuraba is controlling from the bottom.
Sakuraba is breathing heavily.

Armstrong lands a couple of digs.
Armstrong connects with a couple of short punches.
Sakuraba is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Armstrong postures up and lands a big shot to Sakuraba's brow.

Armstrong seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Armstrong cracks Sakuraba with a solid left hand.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Sakuraba wants to stand and escape but Armstrong is having none of it.
Armstrong slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.

Armstrong stands up from guard. Let's bang!

Armstrong gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
Armstrong tries for a takedown. No joy.

Sakuraba decides to pull guard.
Armstrong working some strikes from top position.
Sakuraba wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and Armstrong manages to pass to side control.

Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Armstrong in particular looking to stall.
Armstrong slips a nice elbow through Sakuraba's hands, connecting with Sakuraba's forehead.
Armstrong is taking a breather. Sakuraba says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

Armstrong stands up and beckons Sakuraba to join him on the feet.

Armstrong clinches up with Sakuraba and pushes him back against the cage.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Armstrong decides to pull guard.
Sakuraba is fighting to break Armstrong's control of his arms but Armstrong is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.

Armstrong has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Sakuraba can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Sakuraba trying to control the position from guard on top but Armstrong is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Armstrong is trying to keep Sakuraba in close.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Armstrong is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! Armstrong's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!

Sakuraba tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.

Sakuraba is still on wobbly legs! Can Armstrong finish him?

Sakuraba lands a nice trip takedown into half guard.
Armstrong preventing any damage for now, controlling his opponent's head.
Armstrong's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
Sakuraba takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Armstrong is looking to improve his position.

Sakuraba wants to work for an arm triangle but Armstrong is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

Sakuraba seems to have recovered his senses.
Armstrong is trying to control but can't.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Armstrong.

Armstrong is putting a hurting on Sakuraba here, landing some big shots from side control.

Armstrong is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Sakuraba is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Armstrong tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Armstrong has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Sakuraba is looking to regain half guard here but Armstrong keeps moving and retains side control.

Armstrong takes a little break here. Sakuraba wants to take advantage but he is being controlled well.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
You can see the frustration on Sakuraba's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Sakuraba is looking to reverse the position.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Lee Sakuraba seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Sakuraba throws a left and a right that both miss

and Armstrong counters with a crisp one two that drops Sakuraba! Armstrong thinks about following him to the mat for a moment but instead steps back and waves Sakuraba to his feet! Sakuraba is in big trouble!

Armstrong has taken the fight to the clinch.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Armstrong controlling the action here for a moment.
Lee Sakuraba has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Cedric Armstrong is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
