PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Ronnie McDonald (ranked 4506 p4p, 450 weight class) and Corwin Anstey (ranked 15755 p4p, 578 weight class). McDonald comes into the arena with Get Busy Living blaring out of the sound system. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 17 - 28 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Ronnie McDonald!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 20 - 18 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Corwin Anstey!
The judges for this bout are William Peck, Elvis Blanc and Yves DeLean.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A low kick from Anstey misses

and McDonald counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Anstey wants to stand back up but McDonald manages to pass into side control.

McDonald tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
McDonald sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but Anstey is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.
McDonald trying to control the position but Anstey is working away.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Anstey is pushing McDonald's head away, looking to escape. McDonald manages to hold on to the position though.

The ground and pound from McDonald seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent.

Anstey bucks up and manages to escape back to his feet!

McDonald looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
McDonald seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Anstey does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

McDonald is trying to control the action in half guard but Anstey is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

Anstey manages to create a bit of space in order to work his way back to his feet. McDonald keeps hold of his opponent and drives him back against the cage.

Anstey breaks from the clinch.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

McDonald closes the distance and pushes Anstey back into the cage.

Anstey breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
McDonald shoots in and drives through. Anstey sprawls well.

Anstey gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
McDonald lands a couple of decent looking shots.
McDonald trying to control the position from guard on top but Anstey is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

McDonald might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
McDonald not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

McDonald lands a couple of elbows.
Anstey utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
McDonald lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.

Anstey is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
McDonald trying to control but Anstey is working from the bottom.
McDonald has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
McDonald takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away.
McDonald shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Anstey but Anstey pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Anstey tries to clinch up but McDonald circles away and keeps his distance.
Anstey is looking to clinch but McDonald is avoiding it.
McDonald throws an ugly left hook that misses
and Anstey counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.
No luck with that takedown attempt from McDonald.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Ronnie McDonald. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Anstey fails with an attempt to clinch.

Anstey gets the takedown into side control.
McDonald manages to get back to half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Ronnie McDonald will probably get the nod.

Anstey stays in close to McDonald's body and controls the position.

Anstey shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Anstey was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

McDonald tries to lock up and control but Anstey gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

Anstey gets to his feet and calls his opponent to stand. Here come the fireworks!

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
McDonald is looking to slow Anstey down with leg kicks.
Corwin Anstey is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
McDonald tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Anstey looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
McDonald fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
McDonald is looking to clinch but Anstey is avoiding it.

Anstey walks into a straight right hand from McDonald.

McDonald clobbers Anstey with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!



McDonald closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Anstey's guard.
Anstey wants to stand but McDonald is controlling the position.
McDonald is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

Anstey tries to counter by closing the distance.
Anstey moves into range and lands a nice body kick.
McDonald pulls out of a head kick attempt.
McDonald throws a hook but Anstey avoids it easily.

Anstey gets a clinch.
McDonald throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but Anstey blocks it with crossed arms.
Anstey tries to break the clinch but McDonald is controlling the position.
Anstey has had enough of the clinch but McDonald keeps him there for the moment.
McDonald has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Anstey is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Anstey takes a knee to the side of the body.

Anstey breaks from the clinch.
McDonald looking to throw a kick but he's pulled out of it.
Anstey tries to clinch but McDonald is having none of it.
Nice uppercut there from McDonald.

McDonald lunges at Anstey with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Anstey's hand.
McDonald ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Anstey moves away.
McDonald loads up on a big right hand but Anstey slips the punch.

Anstey clinches up with McDonald and pushes him back against the cage.
This has been an exciting period of action!
McDonald lands a damaging elbow.
McDonald tries to pull guard but Anstey holds him up against the cage and eventually McDonald drops back down to his feet.
Anstey tries to circle away but McDonald has him pinned against the cage.
Nice body punch from McDonald - that landed with a thud.
McDonald misses with an elbow strike.

Anstey breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Anstey closes the distance and clinches.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Anstey is trying to break free.
Anstey blocks the elbow strike.
Anstey can't break the clinch.
Our sources have told us that McDonald has been working on his elbows in the gym.
Anstey pushes off an throws an elbow but McDonald leans to the side and avoids it. We're back to clinching against the cage.

And that's the end of the fight!
Ronnie McDonald showed his dominance in that final round.
I think McDonald has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
