PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Max Wazinsky (ranked 7182 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rick Sirck (ranked 7173 p4p, 0 weight class). Sirck has a niggling injury. He would have liked to come in 100% fit but that's not always possible. Rick Sirck has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Max Wazinsky!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Rick Sirck!
The judges for this bout are Elvis Blanc, Robert Douchet and Steve Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Wazinsky gets a clinch.

Wazinsky has hold of one of Sirck's legs. Sirck is fighting the takedown attempt but Wazinsky gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.
Wazinsky has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Wazinsky postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Sirck is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Wazinsky, into his guard.

Wazinsky seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.

Sirck drops back looking for a leg! Wazinsky is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Wazinsky manages to kick Sirck off! Sirck jumps back into Wazinsky's guard.

Wazinsky has control of Sirck's left arm, preventing Sirck from doing any damage.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Sirck drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Sirck jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Wazinsky working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Sirck doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Sirck manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Sirck shoots in for a takedown but Wazinsky shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

Wazinsky shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.

Wazinsky has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

Wazinsky closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Sirck to the mat! Sirck manages to get full guard.

Wazinsky looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Sirck with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Wazinsky manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.

Wazinsky shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Sirck's guard.

Sirck pushes Wazinsky off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.

Sirck wants to improve his position but Wazinsky is controlling well.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Wazinsky is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Wazinsky in particular looking to stall.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Wazinsky looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Sirck wants to clinch.

and Wazinsky counters with a single leg into guard. Sirck didn't expect that.

Wazinsky is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.
Sirck wants to sweep but no luck.
Wazinsky controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Wazinsky seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Sirck for as long as he can get away with.
Wazinsky lands a couple of digs.
Rick Sirck has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Max Wazinsky is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
