PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Schael Walker (ranked 5411 p4p, 576 weight class) and Ko Ala Bear (ranked 24197 p4p, 674 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Schael Walker!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Ko Ala Bear!
The judges for this bout are Ben Zyskovitsi, Arvi Lind and Marco Blurström.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Walker with a jab.
Bear has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Walker finds it's way round the side to connect with Bear's head.

Walker gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Bear is trying to break the clinch but Walker is controlling him.
Bear takes a shot to the head.
Bear jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Walker walks away with a smile on his face. Bear gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Bear shoots in and drives through. Walker sprawls well.
Walker tries to counter by moving into the clinch but Bear manages to circle out of the way.
Walker lands with a good body shot.
Schael Walker seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Walker throws a head kick that misses.
Nice defenses there by Bear.
Bear tries to clinch there but Walker circles away.
Walker lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Bear backs up against the cage.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Walker displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Bear.
We've been told by Walker's head coaches at Grind Time [ *Double Elite Coaches] that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.
Schael Walker has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Ko Ala Bear.

Walker gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
Walker wants to break the clinch but can't.

Bear's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Walker fails to land with a series of punches.

Walker clinches up against the cage.

Bear is trying to pull guard but Walker turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.

With the fighters clinched against the cage, Walker creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut.
Walker lands a left hand that snaps the head of Bear backwards.
Bear tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Walker just stands there and leans against the cage.
Walker lands a left hand.
Bear avoids the elbow strike from Walker, against the cage.
Walker is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Bear is defending well for now.

Bear has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Walker uses from the top position.

Walker wants to stand and escape but instead Bear has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.

Bear won't allow Walker to get back to his feet.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Walker is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Walker is looking to stand up but Bear isn't so interested in that idea.
Walker wants to sweep but no luck.
Bear pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Walker is keeping the position for now.
Bear wants to control from the top but Walker keeps moving.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Walker utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Walker wants to improve his position but instead Bear has moved into half guard.
Bear trying to control the pace.

Walker has managed to escape just enough to sneak back to his feet but Bear is on him like a limpet, forcing Walker back against the cage.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Walker is leaning against Bear and scores with a nice uppercut to the body.
Bear is trying to pull guard but Walker has him pressed against the cage.
Walker wants to break the clinch but can't.
Walker lands with a right to the head.
Bear looks winded!
Walker cracks Bear with a nice body shot.
A short left from Walker.
A right hook to the body lands for Walker.
Walker gets through Bear's defenses to land a nice punch to the side of the head.
Walker scores with a shot to the side of Bear's head.
Walker pushes Bear back against the cage and lands a hook to the side of the head.
Walker throws a knee to the head but misses.
Bear is looking to control Walker's arms but Walker gets an underhook and turns him. Now Bear has his back to the cage.
Walker lands a hook to the body. It's hard to tell if that hurt Bear or not.
Walker lands a hook to the side of the head.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Walker tries to land knees in the clinch but Bear avoids the damage to the body.
Both fighters working to control the clinch.
A short uppercut from Walker.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A nice right hand lands inside from Walker.
Walker lands with a quick shot inside that doesn't really do much damage.
Walker scores with a shot to the side of Bear's head.
Bear blocks an elbow strike.
A short left from Walker.
Bear should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.

Bear is rocked!
Walker creates a bit of space for himself and rocks Bear with a big uppercut! Bear tries to clinch up but Walker pushes him back against the cage and lands another monster strike that crumples Bear to the mat! Bear covers up and Walker unloads with more strikes until the referee steps in to end the bout!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:33 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Punches). Schael Walker!
