PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Miles North (ranked 1186 p4p, 146 weight class) and Sergey Chernishev (ranked 2225 p4p, 258 weight class). North comes to the cage accompanied by Men at Work - Down Under. Chernishev comes into a darkened arena with his song building. MC Hovanskiy - Father in the building kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 10 - 9 - 0, fighting out of New York, Miles North!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 11 - 9 - 0, fighting out of New York, Sergey Chernishev!
The judges for this bout are Saam Ante, Paulsen Ambrosius and Albert Achterberg.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
North throws a nice inside leg kick.
Chernishev fakes a jab and throws a low kick but North checks it well.
North connects with a solid leg kick.
We've been hearing reports that North has been drilling takedowns in recent sessions so let's see if that has an impact on the result of this fight.
North lands with a kick to the temple. Chernishev shrugs as if to say "is that all you've got?"
North shoots in looking for a takedown. Chernishev tries to sprawl out of it but North keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Chernishev manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
North shapes like he's going to throw a leg kick but settles back down.
Chernishev with the counter takedown but North avoids it easily.
A big right from North misses.
North doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.
North takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.
North really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Chernishev works North's body with a nice hook.
North connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.
North tries to land a front kick but Chernishev steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
North shoots in looking for a takedown but Chernishev manages to keep the fight standing, pushing North's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Chernishev slips a straight right by North.
North swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Chernishev looks to land a left hand but North moved out of range nicely.
We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Chernishev has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat.
Chernishev lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent.

North gets cracked with a nice right hand there by Chernishev.
North loads up on a big right hand but Chernishev slips the punch.
North misses with the body kick

and Chernishev counters with a takedown into side control! That could mean trouble for North!

Chernishev wants to take a breather but North is having none of it.

Chernishev slips a nice elbow through North's hands, connecting with North's forehead.
Chernishev wants to lay and pray for a moment but North keeps working.
Chernishev is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.
North gets full guard.
North will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
North is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

North is trying to work for a kimura but Chernishev is defending well.
North looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Chernishev works his way to full guard. Good work.

North missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
North wants to control from the top but Chernishev keeps moving.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells North's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
North stands up over Chernishev, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
North trying to control but Chernishev is working from the bottom.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
North trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
North landing with the ground and pound.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells North's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
North makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
North lands a couple of digs.
Chernishev keeping moving, preventing North from controlling successfully.
Chernishev is trying to keep North in close.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
North lands a couple of decent looking shots.
North is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
North trying to control but Chernishev is working from the bottom.
North landing some decent shots from guard.
North trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Chernishev looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Chernishev is on top in guard.


North throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Miles North will probably get the nod.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!


Chernishev is looking to land body kicks.

North bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Chernishev tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but North wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Chernishev is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
Chernishev tries to get to full guard but North has control of the leg.
North is thwarting Chernishev's attempts to control the position.
North is nestled in close to Chernishev, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
North scores with a couple of good hammerfists.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

North throws a big elbow that misses.
North trying to control the position from guard on top but Chernishev is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
North missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
North postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
North has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
North slips nicely into half guard.
North takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
Chernishev is not content to let North control the position.
Chernishev wants to control but North is keeping busy.

Chernishev wants to improve his position but North is controlling well.
North not doing much here.
Chernishev is trying to get back to full guard.

Chernishev moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
North looking to sit in guard and control but Chernishev gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

North is working for submissions here. He's thrown up his legs looking for a triangle but Chernishev frees his head nicely. Oh but North has switched to an armbar! Chernishev is tapping furiously! Lovely submission there!

An out of breath Miles North thanked his loyal fans in his post fight interview, giving them credit for his success over the course of his career.
