PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Lac Duc Lao (ranked 23423 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mike Perry (ranked 4447 p4p, 0 weight class). Mike Perry told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

The judges for this bout are Donald Grub, Sam Margolis and Colin Fotheringham.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Perry swings widly with a right hand
and Duc Lao counters with a two punch combo.
Perry throws a body punch but Duc Lao moves out of range.
Duc Lao half commits to a counter takedown before pushing away, out of range.
Perry tries to bum rush Duc Lao with a series of wild strikes but Duc Lao uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Duc Lao has a takedown stuffed.

Duc Lao moves into the clinch successfully.
Perry jumps guard but Duc Lao stands there with Perry around his waist. Perry gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Perry misses with a punch to the body.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Duc Lao jumps guard and drags Perry to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.

Duc Lao drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Duc Lao jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Perry wants to control but Duc Lao is keeping busy and won't allow it.

Still in half guard, Duc Lao seems content to control.

Duc Lao stands up and beckons Perry to join him on the feet.

Duc Lao seem to be loading up, looking for a big counter.

Duc Lao closes the distance and clinches.
Duc Lao stops a takedown attempt from Perry.
Perry with the Thai clinch. He's looking to land a big knee but he's not managed it this time.
The referee is keeping an eye on Duc Lao - much more stalling and he will separate the fighters.

Perry fails to pull the fight into his guard.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.

Duc Lao shoots in looking for a takedown. Perry tries to sprawl out of it but Duc Lao keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Perry manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Duc Lao lands a big head kick that sends Perry tumbling to the mat! Duc Lao takes a step backwards and waves Perry back to his feet - he wants the finish!

It looks like Mike Perry has been cut.
Duc Lao displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Perry.

Perry trying to control the position from guard on top but Duc Lao is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Lac Duc Lao overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Duc Lao pulls Perry in close to prevent any damage.
Duc Lao keeping moving, preventing Perry from controlling successfully.

Duc Lao bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Perry's guard.

Perry is looking to stand up but Duc Lao isn't so interested in that idea.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Perry tries to land a sweep but no joy.

Perry throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Duc Lao escapes and throws Perry's legs to the side, diving into side control!
Perry is working to avoid the ground and pound but Duc Lao connects with a decent elbow.
Duc Lao advances to full mount.
Perry really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Duc Lao. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Duc Lao connects with a couple of good shots from mount.
Perry is looking to improve his position but Duc Lao isn't that keen on the idea.
Duc Lao wants to control the pace but Perry is squirming around nicely.

Duc Lao is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Perry to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Perry shrugs it off.

Perry tries to hold on but Duc Lao postures up.
Duc Lao lands a nice shot to the head.

Perry is rocked!

Perry tries to buck Duc Lao off so he can stand up but Duc Lao has got his back now - this could be big trouble! He's slapped on a rear naked choke that looks really tight! Perry falls backwards, slamming Duc Lao to the mat but Duc Lao holds on tight! Perry is forced to tap and this one is all over!
