The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Schmidt shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Wheeler's guard.

Wheeler looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Schmidt passes into side control.
Wheeler is looking to reverse the position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Wheeler takes a nasty elbow to the side of the head.
A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.
Wheeler sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.
Schmidt lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.

Wheeler bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!
Wheeler is fighting to break Schmidt's control of his arms but Schmidt is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.

Wheeler is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Schmidt is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Schmidt has escaped and now he's on top!

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Schmidt stands and throws Wheeler's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Wheeler tries to improve position but can't.
Schmidt lands a few punches from side control.
Wheeler takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.
Schmidt slows the pace down.
Schmidt advances to mount.
Wheeler is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Wheeler is breathing heavily.
Schmidt content just to control the position here.

Wheeler might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Schmidt working over Wheeler with some ground and pound. Wheeler looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.

Wheeler is looking to regain full guard. He's left an arm up in the air though and Schmidt has latched onto it... Big trouble! Schmidt pivots for an armbar - it's in tight and it Wheeler is tapping in no time flat! Great counter grappling there from Schmidt!

Frank Schmidt decided to hype himself up post fight. It was going well but he went on about it a bit too long and the crowd turned on him a little.
