The judges for this bout are Shirou Masuda, Taro Takaoka and Shigeki Fujiwara.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Fernandez throws a combination that misses
letting Golovkin counter with a right hand.
It looks like Bobo Fernandez has been cut.
Golovkin takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.
Fernandez takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.
Golovkin lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.
Golovkin staying out of range there.
Fernandez looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Bobo Fernandez seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Fernandez lands a head shot.
Fernandez misses with a lunging right hand
and Golovkin counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.
Golovkin misses with a wild body shot.
Fernandez throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Golovkin tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Fernandez is in Golovkin's guard.
Golovkin manages to escape and get back to his feet.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

and Golovkin cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.

and Golovkin counters with a left to the body.

We've been told by Golovkin's head coaches at Blake Phoenix's Champion Factory that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.
Fernandez looks winded!
Fernandez throws a lazy uppercut
and Golovkin counters with a nice body shot.
Fernandez seems to have recovered his senses.
Golovkin scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.
Fernandez takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.

Golovkin lands with a nice body punch.
Fernandez keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Vadim Golovkin is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Golovkin scores with a jab to the head.
Golovkin looks to score with a jab to the body but Fernandez is just out of range.
Golovkin lands with a right and another and another! Fernandez is in big trouble! Golovkin lands again and this time it's lights out for Fernandez! A quality knockout there for Golovkin.
