The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Boon pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Hicks stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Hicks wants it to stay on the feet.
Hicks is looking to counter with a body kick.
Hicks really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

and Boon counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.
We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Boon has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat.

Boon has taken the fight to the clinch.
Hicks misses with a punch to the body.
Hicks tries to pull guard but Boon holds him up against the cage and eventually Hicks drops back down to his feet.

Hicks ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Hicks no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Hicks is looking for a triangle but Boon pushes his legs off easily.

Hicks working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Boon doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Boon manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Boon is posturing up here but Hicks has hold of an arm and he's gone for an armbar! Boon tries to roll out but it's too tight and Boon has to tap! Slick submission there by Hicks!
