The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gorbechav throws the kick towards the body but Wheeler avoids it.
Wheeler went nuts there looking for a big combo counter but none of the flurry connected.

Gorbechav moves into the clinch successfully.
Gorbechav is trying to break free.

Wheeler's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Gorbechav looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Wheeler!
Wheeler manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Wheeler looking to hit a scissor sweep but Gorbechav is one step ahead there.

Gorbechav got a little sloppy there for a moment and Wheeler has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Gorbechav has managed to get both his arms back between Wheeler's legs - danger averted.

Wheeler is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Gorbechav is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Wheeler has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Wheeler is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Gorbechav controls Wheeler momentarily but Wheeler frees himself.

Gorbechav gets control of Wheeler's arms and successfully pulls guard. Gorbechav will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.

Gorbechav throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Wheeler sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Wheeler appears to be looking for a counter takedown.

Wheeler feinted there with a counter leg kick.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Brendon Wheeler will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

It looked like Wheeler wanted to counter with a hook but didn't fully commit.

Wheeler manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Gorbechav on his heels. He'll look to pass Gorbechav's guard now, I'm sure.
Wheeler is standing up over Gorbechav. Gorbechav looks to escape but Wheeler dives into side control.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Wheeler decides to stand back up. Wheeler steps back and let's Gorbechav get back to his feet.
Wheeler throws a leg kick but Gorbechav checks it.
Wheeler throws a body punch but Gorbechav moves out of range.

Gorbechav shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Gorbechav was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Gorbechav wants to stand but Wheeler is controlling his arm.
Wheeler is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Gorbechav off and has taken his back!

Gorbechav covers up after that shot from Wheeler.

Wheeler has both hooks in and is working for a choke. Gorbechav is in real trouble here. Wheeler gets an arm under the chin and tightens the submission attempt... is this the end? Yes, Gorbechav is tapping out! Wheeler wins by rear naked choke!
