Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Paddy Fagan (ranked 975 p4p, 125 weight class) and Marcio Alvarez (ranked 1549 p4p, 187 weight class). Alvarez is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Made in Brazil. This should be fireworks!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 10 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Paddy Fagan!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 12 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Marcio Alvarez!
The judges for this bout are Wagner Zegers, Radbod Blank and Aafke Stam.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Fagan misses with a double jab.
Fagan moves into range and throws a lovely three punch combination.
Good shot there by Fagan.
Alvarez throws a leg kick which misses Fagan's front leg but catches the back leg as Fagan tries to avoid it.
Fagan misses with a hook
and Alvarez counters with a nice leg kick.
Fagan is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Alvarez.
Alvarez looks like he wants to counter punch here.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
A looping hook to the body misses from Fagan. Alvarez does a little dance to reset his feet.
Alvarez appears to be waiting to throw a counter punch to the body.
Fagan looks to land a left hand but Alvarez moved out of range nicely.

and Fagan counters with a left to the body.
The crowd cheers as Fagan lands an impressive looking overhand right. Alvarez doesn't seem phased though.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Alvarez throws a solid leg kick but Fagan takes the impact on his shin and smiles at Alvarez.

and Alvarez counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Fagan throws a lazy uppercut

and Alvarez counters with a takedown into side control.
Alvarez misses with an attempted head punch from side control.
Fagan has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance.
Alvarez lands some shots froms side control.
Fagan stops Alvarez from passing to mount.
Alvarez misses with an attempted head punch from side control.
Alvarez grinds an elbow into Fagan's temple.
Alvarez misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.
Alvarez works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Fagan tries to improve position but can't.
Fagan is trying to get back to his feet.
Alvarez works to advance to full mount. Fagan defends for a few seconds but eventually he succumbs.
Fagan knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Alvarez on the ground.
Fagan is in all sorts of trouble here.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Poor strikes thrown by Alvarez there. More accuracy and less frantic strikes would help!
Fagan wants to hold on but Alvarez pushes him away.

Fagan tries to lock up and control but Alvarez gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

Alvarez is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Fagan to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Fagan shrugs it off.
Fagan can't escape the position.

Fagan takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.
My spies in Hilo Ippon Squad inform me that Alvarez has been getting involved in the gym's BJJ sparring sessions. Let's see whether that pays dividends!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Alvarez connects with a bit shot that sees Fagan covering up! More strikes from Alvarez and the referee jumps in to stop the fight! Alvarez is our winner by TKO!
