PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Kimbo Slive (ranked 4461 p4p, 388 weight class) and Martin Wolfe (ranked 4739 p4p, 416 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Kimbo Slive!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Martin Wolfe!
The judges for this bout are Alan Glass, Daniel Franklin and George Francis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Wolfe avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Wolfe misses with a two punch combination.

Wolfe throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Slive was covering up waiting for the punch and Wolfe finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Slive can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Wolfe controls the pace.
Wolfe working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Slive wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and Wolfe manages to pass to side control.
Wolfe not doing much here.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Slive wants to get back to his feet.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Wolfe keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Wolfe throws a right hand that Slive ducks under and follows up with a left that Slive also avoids with ease.
Slive has been working on his boxing with his coaches at Far-Q Fight Club in the buildup to the fight.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Slive gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Wolfe slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Wolfe's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
Wolfe is in close to Slive's body, working some short punches and elbows.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Wolfe is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Wolfe stopping the sweep attempt from Slive.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
A combination from Slive does no damage.
Wolfe wants to counter the offense by Slive and move into the clinch position.

Slive takes the fight into the clinch.

Wolfe has clasped his hands together around Slive's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done.
Wolfe landing with strikes to the head and body from side control.

Slive being controlled for a moment.
Slive is looking to reverse the position.
Wolfe takes a little break here. Slive wants to take advantage but he is being controlled well.
Slive tries to bench press Wolfe off him but Wolfe keeps the position.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Slive tries to escape but Wolfe is in control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Martin Wolfe dominated that round.
That's time! Back to the action!


Slive wants to clinch.
Wolfe steps in looking to counter with the mid kick but it doesn't connect.
Wolfe tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Slive defends well and Wolfe ends up having to push Slive into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Slive cracks Wolfe with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business.
A decent looking cross lands there for Slive.
Wolfe steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Slive.
Slive tried to score with a low kick but Wolfe checks it.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Wolfe darts in looking for a takedown but Slive gets double underhooks and turns Wolfe into the cage.
We've been informed that Wolfe has been working hard on his conditioning in the buildup to the fight.

Wolfe shoots in and gets a takedown into Slive's guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Wolfe controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Wolfe has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Wolfe prevents Slive from getting back to his feet.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Slive wants to get back to his feet but Wolfe passes into half guard.
Ground and pound from Wolfe.
Wolfe controlling the action here.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Slive kicks Wolfe off and gets back to his feet.
Wolfe moves out of range as Slive throws a body kick.

Slive drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Wolfe tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Slive wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Slive decides to take the fight back to the feet.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Slive getting the better of the striking in that exchange.
Wolfe shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Slive but Slive pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Slive went nuts there looking for a big combo counter but none of the flurry connected.
Kimbo Slive has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Martin Wolfe.
Slive is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Slive tries to close the distance and clinch but Wolfe swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Wolfe drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Slive is trying to improve his position.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Slive is trying to control Wolfe's posture but Wolfe avoids it.
Wolfe moving around in side mount but really he's just happy to control for now.
You can see the frustration on Slive's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Kimbo Slive dominated that second round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!

Slive tries to clinch but Wolfe moves away

and Wolfe counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Wolfe is controlling the pace.

Wolfe gets to his feet - back to striking we go!

No joy there for Slive, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Wolfe avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

Slive tries for a takedown but Wolfe circles away easily
and Wolfe counters with a two punch combo.
Nice takedown defense from Slive. No joy for Wolfe on that attempt.
Slive cracks a nice hook into Wolfe's ribs.

Kimbo Slive is winning the standup battle so far.

Wolfe gets a takedown into half guard.
Slive wants to get back to full guard.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Slive is doing well to avoid being mounted. He's controlling the position at the moment.

Wolfe wants to pass to mount but Slive is defending the position.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Wolfe controlling the action here.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Wolfe shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Slive as he avoids it easily.
Kimbo Slive has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Martin Wolfe.

Slive clinches up against the cage.
Wolfe is trying to drag Slive to the mat but Slive just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.

Wolfe has picked Slive up - he's going for a ride! Wolfe dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.
Slive wants to control but Wolfe is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Slive is trying to stand up here but Wolfe is controlling him well.
Slive wants to get back to full guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Wolfe with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.
Slive tries to roll over but Wolfe keeps him under control.
Wolfe seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Slive lands a leg kick that knocks Wolfe off balance momentarily.

And that's the end of the fight!
I would just about give that final round to Martin Wolfe.
I think Wolfe has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
