PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Dalton Mcguire (ranked 8258 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rick Ross (ranked 6229 p4p, 0 weight class). Ross has chosen jellyfish jam as his entrance music. Rick Ross is staring across the cage at his opponent, tweaking his nipples.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Dalton Mcguire!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Rick Ross!
The judges for this bout are Ben Zyskovitsi, Marco Blurström and Roosa Järviläinen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Ross pushes Mcguire up against the cage in a clinch.
Mcguire tries to break the clinch but Ross is controlling the position.
Mcguire tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Mcguire digs a right hand underneath Ross's ribcage. Ross let out a lung full of air as it connected.

Ross turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control!
Ross tries to score with some ground and pound. Mcguire controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.
You can see the frustration on Mcguire's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Mcguire sneaks back into half guard.
Ross slows the pace down in half guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Mcguire is looking to improve his position.

Ross is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
Mcguire tries to strike from the bottom but it doesn't land.

Ross is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Mcguire defends it well.

Mcguire kicks off Ross and gets to his feet.

Ross gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.

A left hand lands to the body for Mcguire.
Ross looks winded!
Mcguire tries to land a shot to the body but it's blocked.
Some stalling of biblical proportions here from Mcguire.
Mcguire could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Mcguire jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Ross walks away with a smile on his face. Mcguire gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

Ross drives through and clinches with Mcguire against the cage.
Mcguire wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Ross has him pressed against the cage.
Mcguire is trying to break the clinch but Ross is controlling him.

Mcguire jumps guard.
Ross trying to control but Mcguire is working from the bottom.
Mcguire wants to get back to his feet but Ross is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Ross won't allow Mcguire to sweep him here.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Mcguire seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
Mcguire lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Mcguire trying to stand up but can't free himself from Ross's guard.
Mcguire slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

Mcguire might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Ross is looking to stand up but Mcguire isn't so interested in that idea.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Ross has his foot on Mcguire's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Mcguire works his way back into a safe position though.
Mcguire tries to stand but Ross is controlling from the bottom.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.

Mcguire decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Ross is looking to land body kicks.
Mcguire attempts a counter takedown but Ross avoids it well and moves away.

Ross closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Mcguire did well to prevent Ross getting side control.

Mcguire kicks Ross off and gets back to his feet.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Mcguire gets tackled into the cage by Ross. Ross maintains the clinch.

Ross turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Ross manages to end up in side control.

Mcguire throws his opponent off and manages to get back to his feet! Nicely done!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Dalton Mcguire is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Mcguire misses with a body kick.

Ross shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Mcguire's guard.

Ross drops back looking for a leg! Mcguire is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Mcguire manages to kick Ross off! Ross jumps back into Mcguire's guard.
Mcguire pulls Ross in close to prevent any damage.
Mcguire looking to hit a scissor sweep but Ross is one step ahead there.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Mcguire wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
Ross is breathing heavily.

Ross trying to control the position from guard on top but Mcguire is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Mcguire has one foot on Ross's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet.

Mcguire gets caught napping as Ross dives in and scores a takedown. Mcguire manages to retain guard.

Mcguire wants to stand but Ross is controlling the position.
Mcguire controls Ross momentarily but Ross frees himself.
Ross slips nicely into half guard, despite the strikes coming from Mcguire.
Mcguire keeps control of the position for the meantime.
Dalton Mcguire overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Ross trying to control the action but Mcguire is working from the bottom.
Mcguire wants to get back to his feet.

Ross wants to lay and pray for a moment but Mcguire keeps working.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Mcguire has managed to wall walk up one of the corner posts to get back to his feet. Ross is pushing him up against the cage, looking to control the position.

Mcguire is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Mcguire is striking off his back. Ross thinks nothing of it though and passes easily into half guard.
Ross wants to lay and pray for a moment but Mcguire keeps working.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Mcguire is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ross dives in and scores a takedown into Mcguire's guard.

Mcguire uses the cage to get back to his feet.

Ross throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Mcguire tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Ross is in Mcguire's guard.

Mcguire working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Ross doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Ross manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Ross wants to pass the guard but Mcguire is keeping the position.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Ross working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Mcguire is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Ross is controlling him.

We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

Mcguire working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Ross doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Ross manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Ross lands a couple of elbows.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Mcguire keeping full guard, as Ross tries to pass.
Ross wants to control from the top but Mcguire keeps moving.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Ross moves into the clinch successfully.
Ross digs a right hand into Mcguire's ribs. Those have got to be taking their toll on Mcguire's gas tank.
Ross's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.
Ross misses the knee to the body. Nice hip positioning from Mcguire.

Ross breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Ross ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Mcguire moves away.

Ross fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Mcguire, pushing him back against the cage.
Ross is trying to force a seperation but Mcguire has the dominant position.
Mcguire struggles to land a body shot inside as Ross controls his hands.

Mcguire manages to pull guard.

Mcguire manages to escape and get back to his feet.
Ross misses with a combination

and Mcguire counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Mcguire.

Ross wants to get back to his feet but Mcguire is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Mcguire, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
