Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Gabriel Fernandez (ranked 4648 p4p, 456 weight class) and Jessie James (ranked 5936 p4p, 494 weight class). Fernandez comes into the arena with Battle Symphony blaring out of the sound system. James has chosen Sounds of Silence (Disturbed) as his entrance music. Gabriel Fernandez has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Gabriel Fernandez!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Jessie James!
The judges for this bout are William Gold, Paul Tew and Andrew Berry.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
James tries to land a leg kick but Fernandez saw it coming and moves away.
A shot to the liver by Fernandez. Beautiful body shot.
Fernandez clobbers James with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.
Fernandez throws a body punch but James moves out of range.
James avoids the body shot from Fernandez.
James feints a counter leg kick.
Fernandez looks to score with a jab to the body but James is just out of range.
James appears to be waiting to throw a counter punch to the body.
Fernandez scores with a nice head shot.
A lazy left from James finds it's target.
James avoids the head kick by Fernandez.
Fernandez throws a leg kick that is checked
and James cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Fernandez defending well as James loads up on a big left hand.
James tries to score with a leg kick but it misses it's target.
Fernandez misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from James.
James blocks a head kick by Fernandez.
We've been informed that James has been sparring a lot of Muay Thai in the buildup to this fight so let's see if that has an impact on the result.

Fernandez lands with a thumping leg kick.
James avoids the head kick by Fernandez.

Fernandez clinches up with James and pushes him back against the cage.

James manages to break the clinch.
Fernandez takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.
Fernandez scores with a hook to the body. James takes a step back and tries to catch his breath.
Gabriel Fernandez seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Fernandez throws a half hearted mid kick.
Fernandez tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
James takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.
Fernandez looks to clinch
and James counters with a two punch combo.
A jab from Fernandez finds it's way through James's defenses.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Fernandez just misses with a punch to the body.
Fernandez drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles.

James's corner calls for a 1-2. James obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range.
We've been told by Fernandez's head coaches at Double XX that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.
James avoids the body shot from Fernandez.
And an attempted straight right on the counter from James! But no joy.
James swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Fernandez.
Fernandez lands with a thumping leg kick.
James lands an overhand right.
Fernandez is looking to wear down James with body shots, infact he's throwing more body shots than head shots at the moment.
Fernandez misses with a jab to the body
and Fernandez takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Fernandez throws a leg kick but James checks it.
Fernandez misses with a looping right.
James feints a counter leg kick.
Fernandez lands a nice hook to James's body. James takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes.

and James counters with a good low kick that Fernandez was not able to check.
Fernandez swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
James appeared to try and counter that last move with a leg kick.
Fernandez throws a right hand that James ducks under and follows up with a left that James also avoids with ease.
James lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Fernandez throws the left hand but James avoids the punch easily.
Fernandez throws a sloppy body shot
and James counters with a leg kick that reverborates around the arena.
Fernandez takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.

Fernandez has managed to clinch.
Fernandez tries to break the clinch but James is controlling the position.

Fernandez's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Fernandez is looking to clinch but James is avoiding it.
James throws a two punch combo that lands nicely.


It looks like Gabriel Fernandez has been cut.
Fernandez swings away with a body shot that misses
enabling James to counter with a crisp jab.
Fernandez slips a straight right by James.
James blocks a head kick by Fernandez.
Fernandez tries to clinch but James is having none of it.
James throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Fernandez sees it coming and avoids it easily.
James lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Fernandez tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
The fighters circle momentarily. James darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.


Fernandez is rocked!
Fernandez connects with a good right hand that stumbles James. James circles away out of range and recomposes himself.
Oh Fernandez is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
James drops Fernandez with a naaaaasty hook - Fernandez is in real trouble here! James dives in to side control and pounds out his opponent for a TKO victory! The crowd goes nuts!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:20 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Jessie James!
Our winner, Jessie James, made sure he spent some time buttering up the crowd during his post fight interview, which will no doubt bring him a few more fans.
