PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Devin Blackwell (ranked 24438 p4p, 0 weight class) and Tony Jaa (ranked 5412 p4p, 0 weight class). Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the prize buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 4 - 2, fighting out of Amsterdam, Devin Blackwell!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Tony Jaa!
The judges for this bout are Nard Betker, Wagner Zegers and Paul Aken.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jaa tries a head kick but it misses.
Blackwell takes a kick to the side of the head.

Jaa scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
Blackwell is looking to regain half guard here but Jaa keeps moving and retains side control.
Jaa trying to control the position but Blackwell is working away.
Blackwell is trying to control Jaa's posture but Jaa avoids it.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Blackwell manages to get back to half guard.
Blackwell keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.

Blackwell is looking for a sweep. Jaa is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Jaa seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Blackwell does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Jaa working to pass to mount. He's got his hand pressing down on Blackwell's thigh. Blackwell counters though and makes it back to full guard.
Jaa controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Jaa bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Blackwell is trying to improve his position.
Blackwell is not content to let Jaa control the position.
Jaa working away.
Blackwell really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Jaa is looking to take a break and control but Blackwell is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Jaa working the strikes but Blackwell uses the opportunity to regain half guard.
Jaa is figuring out what he wants to do next.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Jaa escapes and gets back to his feet.
Jaa doesn't manage to clinch there - Blackwell circles away.
Jaa throws a sloppy head kick
enabling Blackwell to counter with a crisp jab.
Blackwell fails with a takedown attempt.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Blackwell enables Jaa to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Blackwell manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

Blackwell scrambles and gets back to his feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Tony Jaa dominated that round.
That's time! Back to the action!



Blackwell drives through and clinches with Jaa against the cage.

Jaa breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Blackwell tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Jaa manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

Jaa looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Tony Jaa has got the better of the ground game so far.
Jaa tries to pass the half guard into mount. Blackwell knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Jaa content to control rather than advance.
Jaa is just content to waste time from the top position. Blackwell takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.

Jaa looking to pass the guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Blackwell is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Jaa must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Jaa gets to his feet. Blackwell looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

Jaa shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Blackwell napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Jaa tries to score with some ground and pound. Blackwell controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Blackwell tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Jaa wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Jaa wants to lay and pray for a moment but Blackwell keeps working.

Jaa is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Blackwell is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Jaa content to control the pace. The referee will try and keep them active though.

Jaa swings around for an armbar but Blackwell sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Jaa's guard.
Jaa seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.

Jaa is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Blackwell defends well.
Jaa is breathing heavily.
Blackwell trying to control but Jaa is working from the bottom.

Blackwell content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.
Jaa wants to improve his position but instead Blackwell has moved into half guard.
Blackwell is trying to get back to his feet now but his leg is trapped.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Blackwell connects with a nice short shot to Jaa's temple.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Blackwell working over Jaa with some ground and pound. Jaa looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.
Jaa wants to control but Blackwell is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Blackwell seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

Jaa changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Blackwell looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Jaa swings around for an armbar but Blackwell sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Jaa's guard.
Jaa takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Blackwell connects with a couple of short punches.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Blackwell gets to his feet - Jaa follows without any prompting.
Blackwell tries to close the distance and clinch but Jaa swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Blackwell gets in close and instigates a clinch.

Jaa manages to pull guard.
Blackwell scoring with punches to the head and body.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Blackwell lands a couple of elbows.

Blackwell stands up from guard. Let's bang!
Devin Blackwell has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Tony Jaa is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Jaa keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Despite the aggression on Jaa's face he doesn't fully commit to the counter.

And that's the end of the fight!
Tony Jaa comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Jaa winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
