Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 33 - 13 - 1, fighting out of New York, Gustavo Santos!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Jumping Rivers!
The judges for this bout are Seu Braga, Thiago Cunha and Alexandre Firmino.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Santos drives through and clinches with Rivers against the cage.
Santos lands a hook to the side of the head.
Rivers is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.
Still in the clinch, Santos scores with a nice short uppercut.
Rivers jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Santos walks away with a smile on his face. Rivers gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Rivers looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.
Rivers is trying to slow down the pace of the fight but Santos is keeping busy.
Rivers tries to throw a body punch but Santos avoids it by throwing Rivers back against the cage.

Santos seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Rivers for as long as he can get away with.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Rivers with a lazy takedown attempt
and Santos counters with a straight punch to the midsection.
Santos scores with a nice looking left hook and follows it up with an uppercut!
Rivers tries to grapple but his opponent circles
and Santos counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.

Santos gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Santos seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Rivers can't keep his opponent in guard - Santos advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Santos looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Santos is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Rivers can do to turn this around?
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
Santos's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Rivers takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.

Santos closes the distance and clinches.

Santos stays in close to his opponent and throws a right hand to the body.

Rivers is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Santos gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.

Santos will no doubt start fighting again in a minute but for now he's just having a little rest, leaning Rivers up against the cage.

Santos has Rivers pressed against the cage, preventing Rivers from circling away and getting back to striking at range.

Rivers is breathing heavily.
Santos digs a right hand into Rivers's ribs. Those have got to be taking their toll on Rivers's gas tank.

Santos feints and as Rivers raises his hands in defense, Santos changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Santos is standing up over Rivers. Rivers looks to escape but Santos dives into side control.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Rivers can't escape the position.

Santos has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
Santos breaks from Rivers's wrist control and lands an elbow.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Well Santos has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
