PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Rich Silva Jr (ranked 1022 p4p, 110 weight class) and Gandolf Schmidt (ranked 2655 p4p, 268 weight class). Silva Jr comes to the cage accompanied by Sleeping Giant. This should be fireworks!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Rich Silva Jr!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Gandolf Schmidt!
The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, Frank Antenori and Jack Bonds.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Silva Jr avoids a punch combination nicely.
Silva Jr throws a poor cross that misses
and Schmidt counters with a straight right hand.
Schmidt lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Schmidt.


It looks like Rich Silva Jr has been cut.
Silva Jr ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
Silva Jr appears to be looking for a counter punch to the body.
Silva Jr ducks under a wild hook from Schmidt.
Schmidt throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Silva Jr tries to counter by moving into the clinch but Schmidt manages to circle out of the way.
Schmidt has been spending a lot of time sparring his boxing in the run up to the fight, trying to sharpen up those hands and look for a knockout.
Schmidt misses with a looping left.
Schmidt fails to land with a series of punches.
It looked like Silva Jr wanted to counter with a hook but didn't fully commit.

and Silva Jr counters with a crisp right hand that drops Schmidt! Silva Jr lets Schmidt back up to his feet, looking for a finish!


It looks like Gandolf Schmidt has been cut.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Schmidt scores with a jab to the jaw of his opponent.

Silva Jr closes the distance and clinches.

Silva Jr presses Schmidt against the cage and delivers a mid-strength body shot.
Silva Jr is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Schmidt to keep the fight standing.

Silva Jr tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Schmidt swings wildly with an uppercut but Silva Jr uses good head movement to avoid it.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Silva Jr wants to sweep here but Schmidt controlling him for the moment.

Schmidt really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Silva Jr. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Silva Jr is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Schmidt defends well.
Silva Jr might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Schmidt looking to control the position here, rather than advance.

Schmidt must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Silva Jr has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Schmidt can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Schmidt seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
Schmidt is stalling here. Silva Jr is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Schmidt seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Silva Jr has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.

Schmidt is not content to let Silva Jr control the position.
Schmidt manages to get back to half guard.

Silva Jr is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Schmidt has managed to free his arm - good work.
Schmidt is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Rich Silva Jr will probably get the nod.
Both fighters have cut men working on them during the interval.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Schmidt misses with a right hand

and Silva Jr counters with a nice right hand that sends Schmidt toppling to the canvas! Schmidt scrambles and gets back to his feet - can Silva Jr finish him?!
Silva Jr flashes Schmidt a smile before throwing a beast of a right hand, straight down the pipe. Schmidt's eyes follow the hand right onto his nose, taking in it's full glory... and then darkness. Schmidt crumples to the floor! He's out cold! Silva Jr punches the air and yells at the top of his lungs - yeeeeeeeeeeah!!!! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:10 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Rich Silva Jr!
An out of breath Rich Silva Jr thanked his loyal fans in his post fight interview, giving them credit for his success over the course of his career.
