Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Lyle Whitaker (ranked 24827 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jerry Kigman (ranked 5413 p4p, 0 weight class). Lyle Whitaker has a significant reach advantage - let's see if he can make it count.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Lyle Whitaker!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Jerry Kigman!
The judges for this bout are Aleksei Zolotukhin, Fedor Mirinova and Igor Prikhodko.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kigman closes the distance and clinches up with Whitaker, looking for a takedown. Kigman pushes Whitaker against the cage but Whitaker circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Kigman looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Kigman shoots in for a takedown but Whitaker shows good takedown defense.
Lyle Whitaker has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jerry Kigman.
Whitaker misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Kigman throws a lazy head kick

and Whitaker counters by moving into the clinch.

Kigman breaks the clinch.
Kigman dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Whitaker. That did some damage!

Kigman tries to score a power double leg takedown but Whitaker sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Kigman somewhat.
Whitaker half commits to a counter takedown before pushing away, out of range.
Whitaker looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Kigman is fending him off so far but Whitaker persists. Nope, Kigman circles away and we're back to standing.
And Kigman tries to counter it with a takedown but Whitaker pushes his down on his head and steps out.
Whitaker defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Kigman.
Whitaker tries to close the distance and clinch but Kigman swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Kigman darts in and clinches Whitaker up against the cage.

Kigman jumps into guard, dragging Whitaker to the mat.
Whitaker wants to get up but he can't break Kigman's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Kigman seems keen to control Whitaker's posture.
Kigman tries to strike from the bottom.
Whitaker trying to control the position from guard on top but Kigman is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Kigman is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Whitaker is controlling him.
Whitaker wants to control from the top but Kigman keeps moving.

Kigman throwing strikes off his back to little effect.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Kigman turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick.
Whitaker fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Kigman wants to counter with a clinch but Whitaker pushes him away.
Kigman shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Whitaker sprawls well. Whitaker wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Kigman gets slowly back to his feet.
Kigman shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Whitaker as he jumps to the side.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Kigman gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Kigman has Whitaker pressed against the cage, preventing Whitaker from circling away and getting back to striking at range.
Kigman is working for takedown but Whitaker is calmly controlling the position for now.
Whitaker really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Come on Kigman - let's have some action - none of this stalling nonsense.
The fighters are pressed against the cage, as the pace of the fight slows.
Kigman looks winded!
Whitaker tries to throw a body punch but Kigman avoids it by throwing Whitaker back against the cage.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Kigman lands on the inside with an uppercut.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Whitaker clinches with his opponent.
Whitaker works for underhooks and lands a body shot in the process.
Kigman wants a takedown.
Whitaker is trying to break free.
Kigman has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Whitaker is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Whitaker has had enough of the clinch but Kigman keeps him there for the moment.

Kigman manages to break the clinch.
Kigman shoots in looking for a takedown but Whitaker manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Kigman's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

Kigman throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Whitaker's waist but Whitaker gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Kigman off to one side.
Kigman slaps away a takedown attempt from Whitaker, before circling back to the center of the mat.

Whitaker closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Whitaker lands in his opponent's guard.
Whitaker seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Whitaker slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

Whitaker has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Kigman is proving hard to escape from.
Kigman not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.

Whitaker is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Kigman has his takedown stuffed
and Whitaker counters with a three punch combo that has Kigman backing up. Kigman nods at Whitaker to acknowledge the strikes.
Kigman throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Lyle Whitaker is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Whitaker clinches up with Kigman and pushes him back against the cage.
Whitaker lands a body shot.

Kigman breaks from the clinch.
Kigman stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.

Kigman has managed to clinch.

Kigman has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Whitaker uses from the top position.
Whitaker will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Whitaker is looking to take a break and control but Kigman is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Kigman wants to get back to his feet.

Lyle Whitaker dominated that second round.
That's time! Whitaker's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!


Kigman dives in and grabs Whitaker's left leg, looking for a takedown. Whitaker pushes down on Kigman's head and hops out.
Kigman tries to clinch but Whitaker moves out of range.

Kigman is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.
Whitaker lands a nice knee to the body.
Whitaker wants to get back to striking at distance but Kigman won't allow it.

Kigman pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Kigman swings and misses with a hook to the body.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Kigman wants to clinch up but Whitaker keeps it at a distance.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Kigman tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Whitaker smiles and moves away.

Kigman takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Kigman misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
It appears Whitaker was looking to counter with a kick there.
A head kick misses from Kigman.
Lyle Whitaker is winning the standup battle so far.
Whitaker tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Kigman manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Despite the aggression on Kigman's face he doesn't fully commit to the counter.

Kigman jumps guard but Whitaker stands there with Kigman around his waist. Kigman gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Nice body punch from Whitaker - that landed with a thud.
Kigman tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Whitaker fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Whitaker misses the knee to the body. Nice hip positioning from Kigman.

and Whitaker counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work.
Whitaker is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Kigman can do to turn this around?

Kigman gets caught flat footed, as Whitaker shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.

Whitaker wants to control the pace but Kigman is squirming around nicely.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Whitaker is landing with some decent strikes but Kigman is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
