Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Min Halloway!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Alex Shafer!
The judges for this bout are Jack Bonds, Don Winkell and Timothy Bukovac.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Shafer throws a right hand that Halloway ducks under and follows up with a left that Halloway also avoids with ease.
We've been told by Halloway's head coaches at Fight Farm that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.
Halloway scores with a three punch combo!

Shafer drives through and clinches with Halloway against the cage.
Halloway lands with a good tight uppercut to the head.
Halloway throws a blind hook that connects with the side of Shafers head.

Shafer pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
A head kick misses from Shafer.
Halloway changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit.
Shafer has done a lot of speed work in the buildup to this fight.
Shafer scores with a jab to the head.
Shafer throws a head kick that half lands.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Shafer avoids a lazy jab quite easily.

Shafer shoots in and bounces Halloway off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Halloway controls Shafer momentarily but Shafer frees himself.
Halloway wants to stand and escape but Shafer is having none of it.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Shafer wants to pass the guard but Halloway is keeping the position.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Halloway misses with the combination.
Shafer throws a counter combo.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Halloway misses the jab.
Shafer jabs. That one connects to the head of his opponent.
A looping hook to the body misses from Halloway. Shafer does a little dance to reset his feet.
Shafer connects with a crisp jab.
Halloway looks to land a combination but Shafer avoids it well.
Despite the aggression on Shafer's face he doesn't fully commit to the counter.
Shafer connects with a hook to the side of his opponent's head.
Shafer throws a nice inside leg kick.

Shafer closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Halloway did well to prevent Shafer getting side control.
Shafer not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Halloway wants to stand back up but Shafer manages to pass into side control.
Halloway wants to control but Shafer postures up.

Halloway is trying to get back to half guard.
Halloway is trying to get back to his feet.

Halloway seems a little lost for a moment, as Shafer dominates the positioning.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
An elbow from Shafer crashes against the mat.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.

Shafer has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
Nice shot lands for Halloway.
Halloway tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Shafer was well out of range. Poor timing from Halloway.

Shafer forces Halloway back against the cage and clinches.

Shafer drags the fight down to the ground.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Shafer can do anything to dispel that myth.

Shafer pushes Halloway off and scrambles back to his feet.
Halloway scores with a shot to the body.
Halloway throws a hook to the side of Shafer's head but Shafer sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Shafer takes one on the button.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Alex Shafer dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Shafer lands a nice looking body kick.
Shafer throws a right and a left that both miss.
Halloway throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Shafer.
Halloway throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Halloway lands with a hook. Shafer tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head.
Shafer throws a body punch but Halloway moves out of range.
Halloway misses with a jab, cross combination.
Halloway fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Shafer manages to avoid it.
Shafer tries to close the distance and clinch up but Halloway swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Shafer moves in looking to clinch but Halloway pushes him off.
Halloway drops down looking for a counter takedown but Shafer sprawls and moves away.
Shafer wants to clinch.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Shafer fails with an attempt to clinch.
Shafer throws a head kick but Halloway moves out of range.
Min Halloway is winning the standup battle so far.
Nice defenses there by Shafer.

Shafer keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
No joy there for Shafer, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Halloway appears to be looking for a counter takedown.
Shafer fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Halloway has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.
