Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Grumpy Bastard (ranked 2314 p4p, 202 weight class) and Xun Wong (ranked 2938 p4p, 251 weight class). Buckle up people - heeeeeeeeeere we go!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, for the featherweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Grumpy Bastard!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Xun Wong!
The judges for this bout are Alyssa Summers, Lou da Vinci and Jonathan Paton.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
We've got one fighter who appears to only be looking to counter and the other not looking particularly aggressive either, so we could be in for a dull fight.

Wong rushes Bastard and presses him up against the cage.
Bastard prevents a body shot from Wong.
A nice right hand lands inside from Wong.
Wong can't find room to land a body shot as Bastard controls the action.
An uppercut on the inside fails to land for Wong.
Wong swings wildly with an uppercut but Bastard uses good head movement to avoid it.
Bastard really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Bastard throws a big elbow that misses.

Wong is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

Wong drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Bastard dives on top into guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Wong is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Bastard tries to roll over but Wong keeps him under control.
Wong with the ground and pound but Bastard uses the opportunity to regain guard.

My spies in Returning Pride inform me that Wong has been getting involved in the gym's BJJ sparring sessions. Let's see whether that pays dividends!
Wong must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Bastard doesn't manage to clinch there - Wong circles away.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Xun Wong dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Horrible takedown attempt by Bastard or perhaps it was just good defense by Wong, which made it look bad.
Wong changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt.
Bastard closes this distance looking for a takedown but Wong circles away.
A little jabbing left from Wong on the counter but it doesn't find it's target.

Bastard shoots in but Wong avoids the takedown attempt easily.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Grumpy Bastard. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Bastard avoids the body shot from Wong.
Wong misses with a looping left.
Bastard fails with a takedown attempt.
Wong tries to counter by closing the distance.
Bastard looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
No luck for Bastard with that takedown attempt.
Wong has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Bastard wants to clinch.
Wong changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt.

Bastard goes for a double leg but Wong avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Wong continues to drive forward.
Wong misses with a straight left.
Wong fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Bastard manages to avoid it.
Bastard uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Wong.
Bastard appears to be looking for a counter takedown.
Bastard slips a jab from Wong.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Bastard tries for a takedown but Wong sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Wong throws out a counter right but Bastard avoids it with no problem.
Bastard misses with a takedown attempt - Wong sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Wong tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Xun Wong showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Back to the action! This is the final round!


Bastard shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Wong as he avoids it easily.
Wong appears to be waiting to throw a counter punch to the body.
Wong looks to score with a jab to the body but Bastard is just out of range.
Wong leaves Bastard with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Wong is clearly trying to counter these attacks from Bastard with a body shot.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Wong has closed the distance and engaged Bastard in a clinch.

Wong is looking for a triangle but Bastard pushes his legs off easily.
Bastard postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Bastard distracts Wong with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.

Bastard stands up over his opponent, looking to dive in with a big punch. Here he comes, superman style! Oh, the punch misses and Wong has got him in a triangle choke for good measure! Oh no! Bastard manages to get his head free but now Wong has transitioned to an armbar! Bastard grimaces and is forced to tap! Beautiful Jiu Jitsu from Wong! I'd be surprised if that didn't end up as submission of the night!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:59 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Xun Wong!
