PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Altair Brain (ranked 2876 p4p, 0 weight class) and Viet Kong (ranked 7988 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Brain might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to 300 Violin. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 18 - 13 - 0, fighting out of London, Altair Brain!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Viet Kong!
The judges for this bout are Richard Clark, Colin Fotheringham and Donald Grub.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kong shoots for a takedown but Brain saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
A slapping body kick lands there for Brain.
Brain throws a leg kick which misses Kong's front leg but catches the back leg as Kong tries to avoid it.
Kong changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Brain tries to avoid it but Kong manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Brain to the ground. Brain escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Brain looks to land a combination but Kong avoids it well.
Brain lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected.
Brain scores with a nice strike.
Brain stalks Kong and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Kong's face. Kong staggers backwards, shaken.
Brain circles away from the clinch attempt.
Brain is looking for a counter combo.
Kong doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Kong takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Altair Brain has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Viet Kong.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Brain lands a leg kick that knocks Kong off balance momentarily.
Brain swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Kong is definitely looking for the counter takedowns here.
Kong changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Brain tries to avoid it but Kong manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Brain to the ground. Brain escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

and Brain makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.

Brain lands an overhand right.
Brain paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button.
Nice uppercut lands for Brain. That snapped Kong's head back.
Altair Brain is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
A slapping leg kick lands for Brain.
Brain connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe.
Kong tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Brain paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Brain misses with a few strikes there.
Brain lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Brain lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Kong closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so.
Kong tries to clinch but Brain is having none of it.
Kong showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Brain.

Brain works over Kong's head and body with a nice combination.
Kong doesn't manage to clinch there - Brain circles away.
Brain throws a quick inside leg kick.
Kong takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.
Brain misses with the combination.
Kong with the counter takedown but Brain avoids it easily.
Brain uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Kong has time to react.
Brain throws a hook but Kong avoids it easily.
Brain thuds a left hand into Kong's body.
Brain fakes a jab and scores with a low kick.
Brain throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Brain cracks Kong with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business.

Kong closes the distance and clinches.
Brain lands with a good tight uppercut to the head.
Kong throws a head punch that misses.
Brain gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Kong.
Kong misses with a hook to the ribs.
Kong changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Brain fights it off and pushes away nicely.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Kong is defended easily by Brain.
Brain is really peppering his opponent's head with punches.
Brain bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Kong's head backwards.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Brain takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away.
Brain moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.
Kong tries to clinch but Brain moves out of range.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Brain smiles there as he lands a nice right hand right on the button.
Brain looking to take his opponent's legs away with the low kicks.
Brain stuns Kong with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.
Brain moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.
Brain chopping away at his opponent's legs.
Kong wants to clinch.
The crowd applaud the fighters' efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Danga de danga de dang - Brain scores with a four punch combination!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Altair Brain dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


A decent looking cross lands there for Brain.

Kong gets the takedown into side control.

Brain sneaks out the side door and pushes Kong away - he's back to his feet. The crowd show their appreciation for the escape.
Kong has a pretty nasty looking mouse under his right eye.
Altair Brain seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Kong darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.

Brain kicks Kong off and gets back to his feet.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Kong walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.
Brain connects with a nice looking jab.
Brain scores with a jab. Kong acknowledges it with a nod of the head.
Kong has tried to improve his agility in the runup to this fight.
Brain moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.
Brain circles away from the clinch attempt.
Brain is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Kong can do to turn this around?
Brain lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise.

Brain lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Kong backs up against the cage.
Horrible takedown attempt by Kong or perhaps it was just good defense by Brain, which made it look bad.
Brain lands a head shot.
Kong's leg has a nasty welt from taking a succession of leg kicks. That must be slowing him down.
Brain looks to land a body kick but Kong moved away.
Brain stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.

Kong fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Brain sprawls well initially but Kong persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Brain is in a tricky position but he's been working on his transitions down at London MMA Club, so we'll see if he gets out of it.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Kong is looking to work some ground and pound but Brain has wrist control.
Kong is fighting to break Brain's control of his arms but Brain is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
Kong makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.

Brain keeping moving, preventing Kong from controlling successfully.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Brain wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Brain lands a kick to the ribs of his opponent. Nice work there - in and out in a flash.
Brain throws a combination. Kong tries to block but a couple of punches get through.
Kong closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so.
Brain swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Kong.
Kong takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.

Kong steps to his left, right into the path of a big body kick from Brain. That one must have hurt.
Brain moving in and out of range nicely, whilst landing the scoring shot.
Kong tries to close the distance and clinch but Brain swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!


Kong has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.
Brain thuds a mid kick into his opponent's body. That will wear on Kong if he has to take too many more of those.
Brain works the jab nicely.

Brain fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Kong has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.
Altair Brain is winning the standup battle so far.
Brain lands a slapping body shot.
Brain throws a right and a left that both miss.
Brain rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Kong moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

Brain gets tackled into the cage by Kong. Kong maintains the clinch.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Kong has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Brain after a bit of a struggle.

Brain gets through Kong's defenses to land a nice punch to the side of the head.

The crowd applaud the fighters' efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Well Brain has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
