PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Frank Corti (ranked 5561 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mike Erol (ranked 7130 p4p, 0 weight class). Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Frank Corti!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Mike Erol!
The judges for this bout are Steve Montenegro, Eddie Farnsworth and John Roberts.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Corti gets a clinch.

Erol keeps control of Corti as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.

Erol pulls Corti into guard.
Corti engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.
Erol wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Corti pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Erol is keeping the position for now.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Corti postures up.

The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Corti is working hard here to advance position.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Erol has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Erol defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Corti.

Corti gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Corti is looking for a takedown.

Corti's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Erol lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Corti circles away quickly and effectively.
Erol on the wrong end of a decent looking cross there.
Erol misses with a looping left.
No joy there for Erol, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Corti digs a good hook to Erol's body.
Corti shapes like he's going to throw a leg kick but settles back down.

No luck with that takedown attempt from Corti.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Frank Corti. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Corti shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Erol defends it nicely.
Corti tries to close the distance and clinch but Erol swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Erol lets it all go there with a big combo counter but none of the punches connected.
A jab from Erol misses.
Erol throws a left and a right that both miss
and Corti counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.
Corti tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Erol defends well and Corti ends up having to push Erol into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Despite the aggression on Erol's face he doesn't fully commit to the counter.

and Erol counters with an inside leg kick.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Corti shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Erol defends it nicely.
Erol wants to counter with a clinch but Corti pushes him away.
Erol throws a right hand that Corti ducks under and follows up with a left that Corti also avoids with ease.
Corti is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Erol unleashes a big counter combination but Corti bobs and weaves and avoids any damage.
Corti shoots for a double leg takedown but Erol sprawls well. He's pushed Corti's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Frank Corti seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Corti finds nothing but air with that leg kick attempt.
Erol drops down looking to force a counter takedown but Corti defends it well.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
No luck for Erol with that takedown attempt.
Corti tries to counter by clinching up but Erol breaks away and moves out of range.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Mike Erol will probably get the nod.
That's time! Back to the action!

Corti jumps guard but Erol stands there with Corti around his waist. Corti gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Frank Corti. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Corti will no doubt start fighting again in a minute but for now he's just having a little rest, leaning Erol up against the cage.

Erol pulls guard successfully.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Corti has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Erol looking to control.
Corti looking to sit in guard and control but Erol gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Erol wants to control from the top but Corti keeps moving.
Corti on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Corti tries to get out of the position.
Corti wants to hit a switch here but Erol passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for Corti there!
Corti tries to improve his position but instead Erol has taken his back!

Corti defends a rear naked choke attempt by controlling one of Erol's arms.

Erol has his arm under Corti's chin here. Game over son! Erol squeezes tightly and Corti is forced to tap out!
