Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Magnus Pulmber (ranked 4457 p4p, 334 weight class) and Tom Winkle (ranked 6634 p4p, 388 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 1, fighting out of St Petersburg, Magnus Pulmber!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Tom Winkle!
The judges for this bout are Ivan Kurochkin, Aleksandr Martynov and Viktor Lagutenko.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Winkle shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Winkle trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.

Winkle is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Pulmber doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Winkle.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Winkle is trying to work for a kimura but Pulmber is defending well.
Winkle is keen to just control but Pulmber is a slippery customer.

Pulmber wants to control but Winkle is keeping busy.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Pulmber wants to improve his position but Winkle is controlling well.

Winkle is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.

Pulmber is in a tricky position. We've heard reports from his gym mates at Russian Bears Training Center that he's been drilling escapes, so let's see if he can get back to his feet.
Pulmber is looking for a sweep. Winkle is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Winkle looking for subs off his back but Pulmber has passed one foot through into half guard.
Winkle regains full guard. Nicely done.
Pulmber has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Winkle looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

Winkle had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Pulmber defends it easily.
Winkle is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Pulmber connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Winkle momentarily.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Winkle.
Pulmber throws a body kick but he wasn't in range.
Pulmber throws a low kick but his opponent is out of range.
Pulmber misses with a body kick.
Pulmber looking to throw a kick but he's pulled out of it.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Winkle looks for a takedown but Pulmber sprawls well.
Pulmber is looking for a counter combo.
Winkle keeps the fight on the outside.
Pulmber lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Winkle at a distance.
Winkle has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Winkle takes a kick to the side of the head.
Winkle changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Pulmber tries to avoid it but Winkle manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Pulmber to the ground. Pulmber escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Magnus Pulmber has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Tom Winkle.
Pulmber is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Pulmber misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Winkle goes for a double leg but Pulmber avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Pulmber continues to drive forward.
Pulmber throws a head kick but Winkle moves out of range.
Winkle tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away.
Winkle closes this distance looking for a takedown but Pulmber circles away.

and Pulmber counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.

Winkle tries to score a power double leg takedown but Pulmber sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Winkle somewhat.
Pulmber doesn't manage to clinch there - Winkle circles away.
Winkle tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away.
Winkle fails with the takedown
and Pulmber counters with a three punch combo that has Winkle backing up. Winkle nods at Pulmber to acknowledge the strikes.
Magnus Pulmber is winning the standup battle so far.
Winkle moves out of range of the body kick from Pulmber.
Pulmber misses with the combination.
Winkle changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Winkle gets caught flat footed, as Pulmber shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Winkle keeping moving, preventing Pulmber from controlling successfully.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Winkle is on top in guard.

Winkle won't allow Pulmber to sweep him here.

Winkle is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Pulmber is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Pulmber has escaped and now he's on top!


Winkle looking for a guillotine here but Pulmber defends easily.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Winkle looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Pulmber wants to control from the top but Winkle keeps moving.
Pulmber would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Pulmber trying to control the position from guard on top but Winkle is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Pulmber is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Winkle is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

Pulmber avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!


Good exchange - Pulmber coming out on top.
Winkle tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Pulmber defends well and Winkle ends up having to push Pulmber into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Pulmber takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away.
Pulmber looks to land a body kick but Winkle moved away.
Winkle with the counter takedown but Pulmber avoids it easily.

Pulmber closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Winkle is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Pulmber got a little sloppy there for a moment and Winkle has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Pulmber has managed to get both his arms back between Winkle's legs - danger averted.

A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Winkle holds on and takes a little breather.

Winkle escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Pulmber gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Winkle is on top in guard.


Winkle drops back, looking for a kneebar! Pulmber looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Pulmber looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Pulmber!

Winkle manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.

Winkle actively working from the bottom here.
Winkle moves into full guard.
Pulmber wants to control from the top but Winkle keeps moving.

Pulmber is sitting in close to Winkle's body. Winkle has gone for a guillotine from the bottom. Oh damn, that looks pretty tight! Pulmber is panicking - it looks like this one could be all over! Yes, Pulmber is tapping! That was a very nice submission by Winkle.
