Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Arthur Menezes (ranked 722 p4p, 99 weight class) and Ispa Mfer (ranked 452 p4p, 64 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Arthur Menezes!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Ispa Mfer!
The judges for this bout are Winston Howard, Chris Dean and Ben Hemmingworth.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mfer throws an overhand right that lands on Menezes's shoulder, as Menezes tries to avoid the shot.
Mfer attempts a leg kick but it's missed by a good margin.
Menezes half commits to a counter takedown before pushing away, out of range.
Menezes moves out of range of the strikes.

Menezes decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.

Menezes wants to work for an arm triangle but Mfer is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Mfer gets full guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Menezes trying to control the position from guard on top but Mfer is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Mfer wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
Menezes slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Mfer felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Mfer wants to get back to his feet.

Menezes tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Menezes has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Mfer is trying to control Menezes's posture but Menezes avoids it.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Menezes is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Mfer knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
The ground and pound from Menezes seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent.
Mfer has one of Menezes's arms on lockdown, trying to prevent him from doing any damage.

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Menezes is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Mfer knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Menezes tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Menezes has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Menezes is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Mfer is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Mfer wants to control but Menezes postures up.
Mfer tries to improve position but can't.

Menezes swings around for an armbar but Mfer sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Menezes's guard.

Mfer avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Mfer is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Menezes is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Mfer is aware though and is defending well.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Arthur Menezes dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Mfer ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Menezes moves away.
Menezes feinted with a counter takedown.
Mfer throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Menezes sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Mfer misses the shot to the body.
Menezes closes the distance and clinches up with Mfer, looking for a takedown. Menezes pushes Mfer against the cage but Mfer circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Mfer lets loose with a powerful body kick. Menezes will feel that in the morning.
Menezes slips a straight right by Mfer.
Mfer throws a hook but Menezes blocks it.
Mfer looks to land a right hand but Menezes moved out of range.

Menezes scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
Mfer is trying to control Menezes's posture but Menezes avoids it.
Mfer is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Menezes's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.
Mfer wants to control but Menezes is keeping busy.

Menezes is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.

Menezes seems to be working for a kimura but Mfer defends the submission attempt.

Mfer is pulling down on Menezes's head. It's preventing any offense from Menezes, at least for the moment.
Menezes tries to free his leg and advance position but Mfer is retaining full guard.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Nice takedown defense from Mfer. No joy for Menezes on that attempt.
Mfer missing with a left hand there. Menezes was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Mfer throws a leg kick which misses Menezes's front leg but catches the back leg as Menezes tries to avoid it.
A lazy left from Mfer finds it's target.
Mfer avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Mfer defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Menezes.

Mfer looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple.

Mfer bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.
Menezes throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Mfer's waist but Mfer gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Menezes off to one side.
Menezes on the receiving end of a decent leg kick there by Mfer. Mfer obviously looking to wear him down.
Ispa Mfer seems to be getting the better of the standup.

Menezes looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Mfer is fending him off so far but Menezes persists. Nope, Mfer circles away and we're back to standing.
It seemed like Mfer was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it.
Mfer lands with a right hand.
Arthur Menezes seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Mfer looks to score with a jab to the body but Menezes is just out of range.
Mfer scoring well with a low kick there.
Menezes throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Mfer's waist but Mfer gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Menezes off to one side.
Mfer throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Mfer lands a jab to the nose.
Menezes shoots in looking for a takedown but Mfer manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Menezes's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Mfer fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Menezes looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Mfer cracks Menezes with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd.
A nice inside leg kick there by Mfer. That's going to slow Menezes down.
Mfer lands with a nice body kick.
Menezes walks into a stiff left hand from Mfer.
Ispa Mfer is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Mfer works Menezes's body with a nice hook.
Mfer misses with a looping left.

Ispa Mfer showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Menezes fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Mfer avoids it really well and circles away.
No luck for Menezes with that takedown attempt.
Menezes stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Mfer.
Menezes fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Mfer manages to avoid it.
Menezes throws an ugly left hook that misses
and Mfer cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Mfer tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Menezes on the receiving end of a decent leg kick there by Mfer. Mfer obviously looking to wear him down.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Menezes accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Menezes wants to pass the guard but Mfer is keeping the position.
Mfer is trying to control the position but Menezes postures up.
Menezes pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Mfer is keeping the position for now.

Mfer is trying to keep Menezes in close.
Menezes stands and throws Mfer's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Mfer tries to buck Menezes off but Menezes is having none of it.

Menezes is trying to get an arm triangle but Mfer is defending well.
Mfer gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.

Menezes is working for a submission of some sort.
Menezes thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Mfer's head.
Mfer trying to control from the bottom.

Menezes seems to be looking for submissions.
Mfer has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Menezes looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Mfer is looking for a sweep. Menezes is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Menezes is keen to just control but Mfer is a slippery customer.
Mfer trying to control here.

Menezes is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Mfer defends it well.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Arthur Menezes.
I think Menezes has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
