The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Thompson instigates a clinch.
Contreras using the Thai plumb to throw knees but Thompson has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.
Thompson is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Contreras gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.

Thompson has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Contreras uses from the top position.
Contreras really is a fat lump.
Thompson lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Thompson seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Thompson works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head.
Thompson wants to stand but Contreras is controlling his arm.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Contreras is not in a great position here, taking some shots.
Contreras wants to control but Thompson postures up.
Thompson is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Contreras's shoulder. That is not cool.

Thompson tries for a kimura but Contreras is defending well.
Contreras tries to slip a leg under to move to half guard but Thompson presses down on the leg and jumps into full mount!
Thompson lands a couple of good shots and Contreras has given up his back, trying to escape the position!

Thompson slows the pace down here. Having a little breather whilst he's in a dominant position, looking to rest and regain some energy, ready to go for the finish.

Thompson gets his hands free as Contreras looks to control.
So, who will make the next big move? In this position it could be crucial.
Contreras trying to control the action but Thompson just sinks the hooks in.

Thompson is persistently looking for the submission but Contreras is defending it well.
Contreras might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Thompson is remaining active here, looking for the choke. The more discerning members of the crowd will appreciate his efforts.
