PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Morgan Hunter (ranked 7943 p4p, 0 weight class) and Edward Banks (ranked 5478 p4p, 0 weight class). I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Morgan Hunter!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Edward Banks!
The judges for this bout are Ben Zyskovitsi, Matti Vanhoillinen and Arvi Lind.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A head kick misses from Banks.
Banks shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Hunter sprawls well. Hunter wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Banks gets slowly back to his feet.
As Banks looks to move away, Hunter throws a big counter combo but Banks just gets out of the way.
Banks changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Hunter tries to avoid it but Banks manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Hunter to the ground. Hunter escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Banks throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Hunter misses with a wild combination.
Banks is definitely looking for the counter takedowns here.
The fighters circle momentarily. Banks darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Hunter blocks a head kick by Banks.
Banks looks to score with a jab to the body but Hunter is just out of range.

Banks drives through and clinches with Hunter against the cage.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Banks has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Hunter is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Morgan Hunter has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Edward Banks.

Banks's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

and Banks counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Banks.

Banks dives in for a single leg takedown but Hunter sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.

and Banks counters with a left and a right that stings Hunter.
Hunter misses with a few strikes there.
Hunter tries to clinch but Banks moves out of range.
Hunter sets himself, and Banks steps forward looking for the clinch! Hunter avoids it this time.

Banks shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Hunter pinned against the cage. Hunter gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Banks looks winded!

Hunter rushes Banks and presses him up against the cage.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Hunter is trying to pull guard but Banks turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.
Banks has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.
Hunter tries to break the clinch but Banks is controlling the position.
Hunter swings wildly with an uppercut but Banks uses good head movement to avoid it.

Hunter breaks from the clinch.

Banks catches Hunter with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong!
Hunter lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Banks circles away quickly and effectively.

Banks clinches with his opponent.
Banks tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.

Hunter escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Banks pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Banks fails with the takedown.

Banks has closed the distance and engaged Hunter in a clinch.
Hunter tries to pull guard but Banks holds him up against the cage and eventually Hunter drops back down to his feet.

Banks tries to break the clinch but Hunter is controlling the position.
Banks looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.
Hunter fails to pull the fight into his guard.

Hunter stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Hunter wants it to stay on the feet.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Despite the aggression on Banks's face he doesn't fully commit to the counter.
Banks scores with a nice looking left hook and follows it up with an uppercut!


It looks like Morgan Hunter has been cut.
Hunter throws a right and a left that Banks avoids nicely.

Banks closes the distance and pushes Hunter back into the cage.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Hunter is trying to force a seperation but Banks has the dominant position.

Banks pulls guard.
Hunter is looking to work some ground and pound but Banks has wrist control.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Banks is on top in guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Banks throws a big right hand that misses.
Banks not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Banks stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Hunter swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Banks has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Hunter is trying to control the position from the bottom.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Banks is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

Edward Banks is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Morgan Hunter.
I think Banks has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
