PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Tyler Cage (ranked 1344 p4p, 181 weight class) and Shark Attack (ranked 3301 p4p, 396 weight class). Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 7 - 1, fighting out of Hilo, Tyler Cage!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 27 - 32 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Shark Attack!
The judges for this bout are Stewart Dunkirk, Chris Downing and Alan Glass.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Attack looks to land a left hand but Cage moved out of range nicely.
Cage pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
Attack moves out of range as Cage throws a body kick.

Attack scores with a takedown into Cage's guard.
Attack distracts Cage with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
Attack has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Attack loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.

Cage wants to sweep here but Attack controlling him for the moment.

Attack seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Cage does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Attack cracks Cage with an elbow. That is naaassty.

Cage tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Attack wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Cage seems a little lost for a moment, as Attack dominates the positioning.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Attack is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Cage knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Attack throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Attack passes to side control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Shark Attack dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Attack keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Cage.
Cage throws a jab when Attack was well out of range.
Cage bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Attack's head backwards.
Attack tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Attack will need to close the distance a bit before he attacks - that leg kick was thrown from too far away.
Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Cage.
Attack looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.

Attack clinches with his opponent.
Cage lands a left hand.
A right hook to the body lands for Attack.
Attack takes a shot to the head.
A right hand to the body from Cage.
Attack fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Attack tries to pull guard but Cage forces him back to his feet, against the cage.
Attack tries to pull guard but Cage holds him up against the cage and eventually Attack drops back down to his feet.
Tyler Cage has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Shark Attack.
Attack is looking to take this one to the mat.
Cage scores with an uppercut up the middle.

A short right from Cage on the inside.
Attack's coach down at Boomerang!! PURE ELITE COACHES and Sparring Center was telling us pre-fight that they have been working on Attack's balance. Obviously they view that as a key factor in the outcome of this fight.
Attack tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Cage avoids it.
Cage lands a left hand.
Attack tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Cage smiles and moves away.
Good exchange - Cage coming out on top.
Shark Attack is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Cage keeps the fight on the outside.
Cage throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Attack sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Attack tries to clinch there but Cage circles away.
Attack tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Cage manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

Cage scores with a kick to the body.
Attack has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Cage lands a nice shot that snaps Attack's head back.

Attack is looking to clinch but Cage is avoiding it.

and Cage counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.

This has been an exciting period of action!
Cage lands with a hook. Attack tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head.
Attack with a lazy takedown attempt
and he gets countered with a snapping leg kick.
Attack is breathing heavily.
Attack fails in his attempt to clinch.
Cage slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range.

Attack forces Cage back against the cage and clinches.
A head punch blocked on the inside by Cage.
A nice left hand lands by Cage.
A short right hand to the side of the head by Cage.
Attack stays in close to his opponent and throws a right hand to the body.
Attack is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Cage to keep the fight standing.
Attack tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Cage just stands there and leans against the cage.
Cage lands on the inside with an uppercut.
Cage lands a body punch in the clinch.
Tyler Cage has scored more points in the clinch so far.
Attack fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Cage just leaning against Attack, taking a breather.
Cage lands with a quick shot inside that doesn't really do much damage.

Cage breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Cage scores with a kick to the midsection.
Attack bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Attack misses with a takedown attempt
and Cage counters with a right hand to the body.
Cage circles away from the clinch attempt
and Cage counters with a lovely straight right hand!

Attack shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Cage napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Cage is trying to improve his position.
Attack lands some shots froms side control.
Cage on the wrong end of some ground and pound.
Cage is looking to regain half guard here but Attack keeps moving and retains side control.
Cage knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Attack on the ground.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! And we move into the final round!



Attack shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Cage napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Attack is working Cage over with some ground and pound from side control.
Attack works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head.
Attack cracks Cage with a big right hand but Cage just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.
Attack lands a few punches from side control.

Cage tries to buck Attack off but Attack is having none of it.
Cage takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.

Attack goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Cage has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Attack but great work by Cage.
Attack can't do much from the bottom here.
Attack gets back to half guard.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.

Attack moves into full guard.
Cage wants to control from the top but Attack keeps moving.
Cage won't allow Attack to sweep him here.
Attack pulls Cage in to control the position.

Attack kicks Cage off and gets to his feet.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Attack throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and he gets countered with a snapping leg kick.
Cage thows a body kick. Attack tries to catch it but that hurt him.
Attack moves forwards but Cage connects with a nice, crisp jab.
Attack shoots in and drives through. Cage sprawls well.
Cage walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.
Attack tries to grapple but his opponent circles
and Cage counters with a slapping leg kick.
Attack takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Cage tries to sprawl but Attack drives through with a takedown into half guard.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Cage wants to get back to full guard.
Attack thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Attack is looking to stall here but Cage recovers full guard.
Attack in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Attack is working Cage over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
Attack is looking to work some ground and pound but Cage has wrist control.
Cage tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Cage keeping moving, preventing Attack from controlling successfully.

Cage is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Attack defends well.
Attack is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.
Attack scoring with punches to the head and body.
Attack is in close to Cage's body, working some short punches and elbows.
Attack throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Attack throws a big elbow that misses.
Attack working some strikes from top position.
Cage is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Attack lands a couple of digs.
Attack content to stall in guard here.
Cage can't keep his opponent in guard - Attack advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Cage is trying to get back to full guard.
Attack drops an elbow to the side of Cage's head.
Attack is nestled in close to Cage, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Attack has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Attack lands with some strikes.
Attack fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!

And that's the end of the fight!
Shark Attack comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Attack has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
