PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Pa‘Akea Built (ranked 42 p4p, 6 weight class) and Ramon Gracie (ranked 29 p4p, 3 weight class). Built comes to the cage accompanied by Hawaiian War Chant. Gracie is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Jiu Jitsu: Vai Finaliza!. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

The judges for this bout are Richard Clark, Andrew Berry and Phil Schofield.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gracie uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Built.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Will Built go for the finish here or will he try and keep control of the position?
Gracie rolls, trying to escape but Built keeps control of the position.
Gracie manages to reverse the position and now he's in Built's guard. Nice work there by Gracie.

That was a close round but I would say that Pa‘Akea Built will probably get the nod.
That's time! Built's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

Gracie stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Built.

Gracie swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Built went nuts there looking for a big combo counter but none of the flurry connected.
Built ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.

Gracie wants to clinch up but Built keeps it at a distance.
Gracie connects with a body shot that sends Built's belly button to the back.

Gracie rushes Built and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.

Still in the clinch, Gracie scores with a nice short uppercut.
A right hand to the body from Built.
Built can't find room to land a body shot as Gracie controls the action.
A real battle for position is taking place between these two warriors.

Gracie pulls guard.
Built stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Gracie swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Gracie isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Built stacks Gracie on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Built!

Built manages to capitalize on a mistake by Gracie to take his back!
Gracie turns into Built and is now in his guard.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Gracie throws an elbow that misses. Built uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Gracie's guard. Nice move by Built!

That was a close second round but I would say that Pa‘Akea Built will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Gracie takes one on the chin but seems OK.
Gracie will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Gracie wants to lay and pray for a moment but Built keeps working.

Gracie uses his free foot to push down on Built's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Built.

A close third round but Ramon Gracie just about did enough to take it.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

A low kick from Built is predictable there

and Gracie counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Gracie slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Built tries to bench press Gracie off him but Gracie keeps the position.
Gracie postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.

Gracie is looking for a kimura. It's pretty deep but Built still has the half guard so he's probably OK. Oh, Built has exploded into a beautiful escape there and after a quick scramble, he's ended up in side control on top! Nice work!

Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!

Built throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Gracie.
Gracie tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away.
Built misses with a body shot.
Built misses the jab.
Horrible takedown attempt by Gracie or perhaps it was just good defense by Built, which made it look bad.
Gracie connects with a looping right hand.

Gracie throws a chopping leg kick but Built manages to avoid taking any serious damage.
Built dips down and scores with a jab to the body.

Gracie feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Built's calf.
Gracie fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done.
Built throws a shot from downtown. Gracie moves away and avoids it.
Built swats away the attempt to clinch by Gracie.
Gracie sees a low kick coming and goes to check it, but it's actually a body kick and it thuds into his unprotected ribs.

Gracie takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming.

Built throws a hook but Gracie avoids it easily.
Gracie changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt.
Built displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Gracie.

Gracie moves into full guard.
Built trying to control but Gracie is working from the bottom.

Gracie escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Built gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Gracie is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
