PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Bob Brophy (ranked 400 p4p, 45 weight class) and Reed Basaev (ranked 669 p4p, 81 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Brophy might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to The Grumpy Song. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A low kick from Brophy misses
and Basaev counters with a stiff right hand.
Basaev defending well as Brophy loads up on a big left hand.
Basaev bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.
Basaev moves out of range of the body kick from Brophy.
Basaev takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it.

Brophy lands with a thumping leg kick.
Basaev throws a leg kick that is checked
and Brophy counters with a body kick.
Basaev cracks Brophy with a right hand to the side of the head.
Basaev moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.

It looks like Reed Basaev has been cut.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Brophy misses with a hook. Basaev ducked under it nicely.
A looping hook to the body misses from Basaev. Brophy does a little dance to reset his feet.
Brophy throws a body shot but no joy.

and Brophy counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Brophy lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected.
Brophy throws a leg kick but Basaev sees it coming and moves out of range.
Basaev misses with a head kick.
An attempted straight right counter from Brophy misses the target.
Brophy scores with a big left there. The judges will like that one.
Basaev jabs Brophy right on the nose. Brophy blinks but takes it well.
Basaev goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.

It looks like Bob Brophy has been cut.
Basaev looks to land a right hand but Brophy moved out of range.
A little feinted left hand from Brophy on the counter but he doesn't commit to it.
Brophy blocks a jab.
Brophy misses with a straight right.
Brophy uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Basaev.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

A slow jab from Basaev misses its intended target.
Brophy was looking to counter that move with a punch but didn't quite pull the trigger.
Basaev throws a poor cross that misses
and Brophy counters with a solid body kick.
Basaev fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Brophy manages to avoid it.
Brophy steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Basaev.
Basaev has his front leg slapped to the side - a nice low kick landing there from Brophy.
Basaev lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Brophy at a distance.
Brophy takes one on the chin but seems OK.

Basaev takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.

and Brophy counters with a straight punch to the midsection.
Basaev throws a body punch but Brophy moves out of range.

Brophy takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him.
Basaev dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Basaev throws a nice looking combination but Brophy bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Brophy swung with a counter right hand that didn't connect.
Basaev has done a lot of speed work in the buildup to this fight.
Basaev swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Basaev ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Brophy moves away.
As Basaev backs away, Brophy returns fire with a leg kick that just misses.
Basaev misses with a hook. Brophy ducked under it nicely.
Brophy scores with a kick to the body.
Basaev's jab looks to have found its range, popping Brophy under the eye.
Nice straight punches there by Basaev. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Basaev.

enabling Brophy to counter with a crisp jab.

That has opened up Reed Basaev's cut even more.
Basaev just misses with a punch to the body.
Basaev is using his reach advantage to land shots from outside his opponent's range.
Both fighters circling slowly here as the pace drops. Hopefully one of them does someth.. OOOHHHH!!!! Brophy throws an absolute beast of a head kick! Basaev is done! He's out cold, twisted and contorted up against the cage! Wow!
