PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Rory MacDonald (ranked 25015 p4p, 604 weight class) and Georges Laraque (ranked 25325 p4p, 593 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Georges Laraque was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Rory MacDonald!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Georges Laraque!
The judges for this bout are Alyssa Summers, Franklyn Lucas and John Roberts.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

MacDonald shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.

Laraque looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.

MacDonald seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
MacDonald is pressing down on Laraque's thigh, looking to free his foot. Laraque is holding on for now.
Laraque wants to control but MacDonald is keeping busy and won't allow it.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

MacDonald tries to clinch but Laraque is having none of it.

It looked like MacDonald was looking amped, ready to throw a big counter but didn't commit.

MacDonald keeps his opponent at a distance with a nice jab.

MacDonald manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Laraque on his heels. He'll look to pass Laraque's guard now, I'm sure.

MacDonald throws a big elbow that misses.
MacDonald is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Laraque is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Laraque has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Laraque is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and MacDonald defends well.
Laraque can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as MacDonald controls the pace.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


MacDonald moves in looking to clinch but Laraque pushes him off.
Laraque throws a right hand that MacDonald ducks under and follows up with a left that MacDonald also avoids with ease.
Laraque tries to bum rush MacDonald with a series of wild strikes but MacDonald uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

Laraque tries to score a body lock takedown but MacDonald shows good agility there to stay on his feet.

Laraque turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Laraque manages to end up in side control.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

MacDonald has hold of one of Laraque's legs. Laraque is fighting the takedown attempt but MacDonald gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.

MacDonald shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Laraque manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Laraque is looking for a takedown up against the cage. MacDonald gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.

Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Well I reckon that's a shut out for MacDonald, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
