Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Spanky Loco (ranked 5473 p4p, 0 weight class) and Diego Barrera (ranked 4522 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Spanky Loco!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Diego Barrera!
The judges for this bout are Chad Campbell, Columbo Gatti and Bruno Lombardi.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Loco is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Barrera's half guard.
Loco wants to control but Barrera is keeping him busy.

Barrera looking for submissions off his back.
Loco is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
Barrera keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Barrera blocking the ground and pound attempt from Loco.
Barrera scrambles, trying to get to his feet, but Loco manages to mount him!
Loco tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Loco trying to control but he's not successful this time.
Barrera really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Loco. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Poor strikes thrown by Loco there. More accuracy and less frantic strikes would help!

Loco goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Barrera turns into him and now he's in Loco's guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Loco wants to stand and escape but Barrera is having none of it.

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Loco had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Barrera defends it easily.
Loco trying to keep a closed guard but Barrera is proving a slippery customer.
Loco manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Barrera manages to get himself to full guard.


Loco postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Barrera is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Loco, into his guard.


That's three minutes gone in the round.
Loco looking to control.
Loco lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Loco pushing down on Barrera's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Barrera is looking to get full guard. It looks like he might be successful but at the last minute Loco jumps into side control!
Barrera wants to get back to his feet.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Loco advances to mount.
Barrera is trying to escape the mount but Loco keeps good control and instead manages to take Barrera's back.
The crowd hopeful of a finish here - Loco's supporters are on their feet, screaming for him to go for the rear naked choke.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Loco is remaining active here, looking for the choke. The more discerning members of the crowd will appreciate his efforts.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Spanky Loco dominated that round.
That's time! Loco's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


No luck for Barrera with that takedown attempt.

Loco rushes Barrera and presses him up against the cage.

Loco pulls Barrera into guard.
Loco is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Spanky Loco overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Barrera stopping the sweep attempt from Loco.

Loco is really struggling to control Barrera but he's trying to hold on to the position.

Loco is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Barrera is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
Loco thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage.
Loco could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Loco throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Spanky Loco is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Barrera fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Loco avoids it really well and circles away.

Loco decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Barrera wants to stand back up but Loco manages to pass into side control.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Loco wants to lay and pray for a moment but Barrera keeps working.
Loco working the ground and pound but he's contacting the mat, not the fighter.

Loco decides to stand up, so the ref orders Barrera to his feet.
Loco avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Loco fakes a jab and throws a low kick but Barrera checks it well.
The fight stays on the outside here - Barrera looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Barrera fails with the takedown

and Loco counters by moving into the clinch.
Spanky Loco has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Diego Barrera.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Barrera tries to land knees in the clinch but Loco avoids the damage to the body.
Barrera utilising his Muay Thai to score with a knee to the body.

Loco wants the takedown. Barrera is fighting it off but Loco persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Barrera's guard against the cage.

Loco stands up over his opponent, looking to dive in with a big punch. Here he comes, superman style! Oh, the punch misses and Barrera has got him in a triangle choke for good measure! Oh no! Loco manages to get his head free but now Barrera has transitioned to an armbar! Loco grimaces and is forced to tap! Beautiful Jiu Jitsu from Barrera! I'd be surprised if that didn't end up as submission of the night!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:37 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Diego Barrera!
