PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Peter Woodcock (ranked 1999 p4p, 297 weight class) and Jack Burton (ranked 3063 p4p, 415 weight class). Both these guys have solid standup skills and neither is particularly fantastic on the ground, so let's hope for a nice standup war!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Peter Woodcock!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jack Burton!
The judges for this bout are Richard Clark, Phil Schofield and Colin Fotheringham.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Woodcock punishes Burton's body with a nice straight punch.
Woodcock lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Woodcock.
Burton connects with a looping right hand.
Burton loads up on a big right hand but Woodcock slips the punch.
Burton throws a hook to the side of Woodcock's head but Woodcock sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Nice straight punches there by Woodcock. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Woodcock.
Woodcock connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe.
We've been told by Woodcock's head coaches at Zero Tolerance that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.
Woodcock really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Woodcock throws a looping overhand right but Burton ducks down to avoid it.
Burton misses the jab.
Burton pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
Burton fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Woodcock manages to avoid it.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Burton closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so.

Woodcock jabs Burton right on the nose. Burton blinks but takes it well.
Burton tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Woodcock was well out of range. Poor timing from Burton.

Jack Burton seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Woodcock throws a looping overhand right but Burton ducks down to avoid it.
A nice side step and Burton releases a counter shot to the body, but it doesn't find it's home.
Burton lands with an overhand left.
Burton connects with a nice looking jab.

Burton takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away.
Woodcock swinging wildly here.
And an attempted straight right on the counter from Burton! But no joy.
Woodcock fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done.
Woodcock avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Burton scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.
Burton gets cracked with a nice right hand there by Woodcock.
Woodcock throws an ugly left hook that misses
and Burton cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Burton loads up on a big right hand but Woodcock slips the punch.
A telegraphed right hand from Burton misses the target.
Burton throws a jab when Woodcock was well out of range.
Burton ducks under a wild hook from Woodcock.
Woodcock keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Woodcock ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Burton moves away.
Woodcock moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.

The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Burton throws a jab but it's blocked by Woodcock.
A punch combination from Woodcock misses.
A slow jab from Woodcock misses its intended target.
Woodcock stalks Burton and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Burton's face. Burton staggers backwards, shaken.

Burton scores with a punch to the gut of his opponent.

Woodcock looks to land a combination but Burton avoids it well.
Burton showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Woodcock.
Burton is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Woodcock.

It looked like Woodcock was looking amped, ready to throw a big counter but didn't commit.
Woodcock is using his height advantage well here, landing a good percentage of his punches.

Burton bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.
Burton connects with a hook to the side of his opponent's head.
Burton takes one on the chin but keeps coming.
Burton looks to land a left hand but Woodcock moved out of range nicely.
Woodcock is really peppering his opponent's head with punches.
Woodcock throws a good cross that connects.
Woodcock thuds a left hand into Burton's body.

Burton just misses with a punch to the body.
Woodcock swung with a counter punch to the body but it didn't connect.
A combination from Woodcock does no damage.
Woodcock fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Burton manages to avoid it.
Burton throws out a counter right but Woodcock avoids it with no problem.
Woodcock throws a shot to the body.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Burton shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.
Burton has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Woodcock finds it's way round the side to connect with Burton's head.
Burton is still on wobbly legs! Can Woodcock finish him?

Woodcock appears to be looking for a big counter.
Woodcock staying out of range there.
Woodcock drops a shoulder and throws a monster hook that connects perfectly to the side of Burton's head, knocking him out cold! Woodcock is extatic as he celebrates with his cornermen.

Peter Woodcock seemed lost for words in his post fight interview but he remembered to thank his fans and directed everyone to his website.
