PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Andrew Drake (ranked 7628 p4p, 0 weight class) and DeMarcus Ridley (ranked 4897 p4p, 0 weight class). On his way into the cage it seems that Andrew Drake has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Andrew Drake seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Andrew Drake!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, DeMarcus Ridley!
The judges for this bout are Gwen Towbar, Alan Glass and Wesley Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Ridley instigates a clinch.

Drake pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Drake drives through with a takedown into Ridley's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.

Ridley wriggles free and stands up.

Ridley closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Drake makes some distance and scrambles quickly back to his feet. Nice work!
Drake could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

Ridley closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Drake did well to prevent Ridley getting side control.
Ridley wants to control but Drake is keeping him busy.
Drake wants to get back to his feet.

Ridley is working for a submission of some sort.
Drake is trying to stand.

Ridley is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.

Ridley is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Drake tries to kick Ridley off but Ridley keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.

Ridley is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Drake has managed to free his arm - good work.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Drake misses with some strikes from the bottom.
Ridley wants to lay and pray for a moment but Drake keeps working.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Drake is pressing down on Ridley's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.

Ridley gets to his feet - Drake follows without any prompting.

Drake has taken the fight to the clinch.

Drake pulls guard.
Ridley advances position into side control!

Ridley thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Ridley working the ground and pound but Drake is defending the strikes.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Ridley stands up and we're back to a striking position.

Ridley shoots in for a takedown and gets it.

Drake makes some distance and scrambles quickly back to his feet. Nice work!

Drake shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Drake was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Ridley sneaks out the side door and pushes Drake away - he's back to his feet. The crowd show their appreciation for the escape.
Ridley looks winded!
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Ridley closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Drake to the mat! Drake manages to get full guard.
Ridley in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Ridley landing some decent shots from guard.
Ridley must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Ridley throwing strikes from guard but Drake blocks nicely.
Ridley wants to pass the guard but Drake is keeping the position.
Ridley trying to stand up but can't free himself from Drake's guard.
Ridley trying to control the position from guard on top but Drake is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Drake wants to stand up but Ridley is controlling him.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

DeMarcus Ridley dominated that round.

Drake looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Ridley wants to control but Drake is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Drake missing with the ground and pound from half guard.
Drake throwing shots but Ridley is blocking nicely.
Drake is trying to get back to his feet now but his leg is trapped.
DeMarcus Ridley has got the better of the ground game so far.
Drake is stalling here. Ridley is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Drake seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Ridley has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.
Sloppy strikes there by Ridley.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Ridley wants to lay and pray for a moment but Drake keeps working.
Drake pushes Ridley away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Ridley gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.

Ridley creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Drake sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.
Drake tries to bench press Ridley off him but Ridley keeps the position.
Ridley wants to control but Drake is keeping him busy.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Drake is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Ridley is controlling him well.

Ridley thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Ridley has an Americana. Drake didn't react quickly enough there and he's in big trouble now! He tries to squirm out but is forced to tap! Ridley is delighted and gyrates in front of the ring girls. They seem to like the attention - it'll be interesting to see if Ridley hooks up with any of them at the after show party.
