The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Alvarez connects with a looping right hand.

Alvarez's jab looks to have found its range, popping Meeks under the eye.

Meeks lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh.
Alvarez tries to work over Meeks's front leg with a kick but Meeks checks it.

Meeks closes the distance and clinches.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Alvarez rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Meeks moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
No luck for Alvarez with that takedown attempt.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Alvarez.
Alvarez drops his hands momentarily and Meeks takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head.
Meeks tries to clinch up.
Ricardo Alvarez seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Meeks enables Alvarez to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Meeks manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Meeks is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.

That was a close round but I would say that Buzz Meeks will probably get the nod.

Alvarez fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Meeks avoids it really well and circles away.
Meeks is on the wrong end of a nice combination from Alvarez.
Meeks lands a nice hook to Alvarez's body. Alvarez takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes.

Alvarez is still on wobbly legs! Can Meeks finish him?
Meeks feints a jab and as Alvarez dips his head, Meeks unleashes a brutal head kick that catches Alvarez right on the jaw! Timbeeer! Alvarez falls backwards in slow motion, only propped up by the cage! Meeks smiles a psychotic smile as he stares down his unconscious opponent. That is a scary man.
