PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Akoni Gray (ranked 14 p4p, 3 weight class) and Kevin Garbutt (ranked 159 p4p, 19 weight class). Garbutt is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Saxon - Strong Arm of the Law. Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gray gets cracked with a nice right hand there by Garbutt.

It looks like Akoni Gray has been cut.
A head kick misses from Garbutt.
Nice defenses there by Gray.
Garbutt swats away the attempt to clinch by Gray.
Garbutt on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those.
Garbutt ducks under a wild hook from Gray.
Garbutt with the counter takedown but Gray avoids it easily.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Gray stuns Garbutt with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.
Garbutt blocks the body kick.
Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Garbutt.
Gray throws a sloppy head kick and Garbutt moves out of range easily.

Gray scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction.

It looks like Kevin Garbutt has been cut.
Gray dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
The sound of bone on bone echoes around the arena as Garbutt checks a leg kick.
Garbutt tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away.
Garbutt missing with a left hand there. Gray was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Garbutt scores with a straight right hand, right through his opponent's guard.
Gray cracks Garbutt with a good jab.

Gray closes the distance and pushes Garbutt back into the cage.
Garbutt tries to work over Gray's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.
Garbutt lands a right hand that snaps the head of Gray backwards.
A short right hand to the side of the head by Gray.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Gray misses with a hook from the clinch.
A nice right hand lands inside from Gray.

Garbutt lands punches inside but they're not really causing much damage.
Garbutt trying to stall but Gray improves his position.

Garbutt escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
An inside leg kick lands from Gray.
Gray buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.
Garbutt throws a solid leg kick but Gray takes the impact on his shin and smiles at Garbutt.
Gray swung with a counter right hand that didn't connect.
Gray doesn't manage to clinch there - Garbutt circles away.
Garbutt misses with an uppercut.
Gray moves into range and lands a nice body kick.
Akoni Gray seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Gray scores with a nice strike.
Garbutt takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.

Gray lands a big right hand that sends Garbutt crashing to the mat! Gray stays standing though and waves Garbutt back to his feet!

Garbutt is rocked!

Garbutt stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Gray.
Garbutt is still on wobbly legs! Can Gray finish him?
Gray lands with a massive overhand right! Stick a fork in Garbutt - he's out cold! Ermm... I think I just mixed my metaphors but yeah... That was a nice KO! Big win for Gray!

A less than humble Akoni Gray misjudged his post fight interview somewhat and came across a little too arrogant whilst trying to hype up his own abilities.
