Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Joe Average (ranked 1743 p4p, 264 weight class) and Chong Tay (ranked 1925 p4p, 287 weight class). Chong Tay has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Joe Average!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 11 - 13 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Chong Tay!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Average changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Tay looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Tay trying to remain calm as Average controls from the top position.
Average misses with the ground and pound.

Average tries for a kimura but Tay is defending well.
Average will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Average misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.

Average tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Average has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
A lull in the action here as Average stalls from top position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Tay managing to avoid any damage from the strikes thrown by Average.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Tay dodges the ground and pound from Average.
Average misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.
Average happy to just control the position for now.
Tay really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Average. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Average is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Tay has escaped the position, nice work there.
Average has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance.

Tay seems a little lost for a moment, as Average dominates the positioning.
Average misses with an attempted head punch from side control.
Average has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Tay is trying to get back to his feet.

Average takes a little break here. Tay wants to take advantage but he is being controlled well.

Average wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Tay, who protects the arm well.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Average tries to land with some ground and pound but misses.
Average sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but Tay is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Average tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.

Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Average is putting a hurting on Tay here, landing some big shots from side control.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.



Average fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Tay to the ground. Average is now in Tay's guard.
Tay keeping moving, preventing Average from controlling successfully.
Average looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
Average is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Average controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Tay has been taking part in the yoga sessions down at Crapollas Gym. Presumably he's going to look for a slick submission... Or maybe he's looking to avoid one.
Tay wants to stand up but Average is controlling him.

Average is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Average postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Tay is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Average, into his guard.


Average looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

Average is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Average is looking for a triangle but Tay pushes his legs off easily.
Average trying to control the position.
Average pulls Tay in close to his closed guard and prevents Tay from doing any damage or advancing position.

Tay gets to his feet - Average follows without any prompting.

Tay swinging wildly here.

Average feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Average is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Tay is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Tay has escaped and now he's on top!


Average has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Tay can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Average has control of Tay's left arm, preventing Tay from doing any damage.
Average continues to stall.

That's time! Back to the action! This is the final round!



Average shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Tay is trying to defend but Average finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.

Average is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Tay is just riding it out for now. Average eventually gives up the hold.

Average is looking for a kimura but Tay is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Average to get the leverage.

Average thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Tay's head.
Average stalling away here and it's allowed Tay to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard.

Tay is wriggling around but Average manages to pass to half guard.

Average seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Average lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.
Average is trying to control the action in half guard but Tay is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

Average is trying to work for a kimura but Tay is defending well.

Average is looking for a kimura. It's pretty deep but Tay still has the half guard so he's probably OK. Oh, Tay has exploded into a beautiful escape there and after a quick scramble, he's ended up in side control on top! Nice work!
Average struggling a bit here.

Average is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.

Tay decides to stand up and try his luck on the feet.
Tay throws a series of punches but Average moves out of range.
Joe Average is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Tay swings wildly with a couple of big hooks

and Average counters with a nice double leg into side control. Tay won't be happy with that.
Average is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.
Average is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Tay can do to turn this around?

Average in side control, trying to ground and pound but not landing this time.
Chong Tay has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Average content to control the pace. The referee will try and keep them active though.

Average's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Average, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
