PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Ross Warring (ranked 1269 p4p, 153 weight class) and Khalamedov Nurmagabeeb (ranked 1716 p4p, 204 weight class). Warring comes to the cage accompanied by Sleep Now in the Fire. Nurmagabeeb has chosen Sabine Kors feat. Timaro - Dagestan (Remix) as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Ross Warring!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Khalamedov Nurmagabeeb!
The judges for this bout are Darius Henderson, John Mangel and Ben Watson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nurmagabeeb shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. Warring eats them both and turns towards Nurmagabeeb to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo.
Nurmagabeeb misses with an uppercut
and Warring counters with a nice uppercut.


It looks like Khalamedov Nurmagabeeb has been cut.
Warring scores with a jab.
Nurmagabeeb shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Warring as he avoids it easily.
Nurmagabeeb avoids a punch combination nicely.
Warring has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Warring there as he acknowledges the shot.
Nurmagabeeb fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Warring slips a jab from Nurmagabeeb.
Nurmagabeeb tries to close the distance and clinch up but Warring swats him away and circles back towards the center.

and Warring counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.

Warring gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Nurmagabeeb to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Nurmagabeeb lands a couple of digs.

Nurmagabeeb cracks Warring with a solid left hand.

Nurmagabeeb drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Nurmagabeeb jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Warring is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Nurmagabeeb is looking to work some ground and pound but Warring has wrist control.

Nurmagabeeb postures up in Warring's guard and throws a big left but Warring blocks it.

Nurmagabeeb looking to sit in guard and control but Warring gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.


Nurmagabeeb has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Warring can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Warring is in a tricky position. We've heard reports from his gym mates at Fit-Out that he's been drilling escapes, so let's see if he can get back to his feet.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Warring wants to stand and escape but instead Nurmagabeeb has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.

Nurmagabeeb stands and throws Warring's legs to the side, diving into side control.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Warring tries to bench press Nurmagabeeb off him but Nurmagabeeb keeps the position.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Nurmagabeeb in side control lands a nice looking series of punches and elbows.
Nurmagabeeb wants to lay and pray for a moment but Warring keeps working.
Sloppy strikes there by Nurmagabeeb.
Warring is positioning himself to get back to half guard.

Nurmagabeeb working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
Warring is trying to control Nurmagabeeb's posture but Nurmagabeeb avoids it.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Warring is trying to improve his position.
Nurmagabeeb landing with strikes to the head and body from side control.
Warring is trying to escape the position but Nurmagabeeb is controlling the position.
Warring is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Nurmagabeeb off and has taken his back!
Nurmagabeeb trying to control but he's just got himself in more trouble.
Warring tries to keep control of the position but Nurmagabeeb is staying busy.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Khalamedov Nurmagabeeb dominated that round.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Nurmagabeeb fails with the takedown.
Nurmagabeeb throws out a loose jab but Warring uses good head movement to avoid it.
Nurmagabeeb throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Warring's waist but Warring gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Nurmagabeeb off to one side.

Nurmagabeeb tries to clinch but Warring is having none of it.
Warring looked to counter that last move with a leg kick but didn't pull the trigger.
Warring connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Nurmagabeeb's hands.
The fighters circling - Nurmagabeeb throws out the jab but it was never going to land.

and Warring counters with a lovely straight right hand!
Ross Warring has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Khalamedov Nurmagabeeb.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Nurmagabeeb closes the distance looking to clinch
and Warring counters with a stiff right hand.
Nurmagabeeb lands with a nice body punch.

Nurmagabeeb walks into a left hand.


That has opened up Khalamedov Nurmagabeeb's cut even more.
Nurmagabeeb misses with a looping left.
It looked like Warring wanted to counter with a hook but didn't fully commit.
A decent looking cross lands there for Nurmagabeeb.

and Warring counters with a crisp right hand that drops Nurmagabeeb! Warring lets Nurmagabeeb back up to his feet, looking for a finish!


Nurmagabeeb is rocked!
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Warring plants his feet and throws a brutal three punch combo that sends Nurmagabeeb swiftly into unconsciousness! Right, left, right! Boom, boom, boom! Nurmagabeeb face plants, battered and bloodied! He might never be the same again after that finish!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:32 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Punches). Ross Warring!
In his post fight interview, Ross Warring started talking himself up. Luckily his charisma kept the crowd on side and gave him a good reception.
Khalamedov Nurmagabeeb spoke after the fight, saying 'Even though I didn't win, training made me stronger. It was a good fight from a good opponent. I'll be back, though!'.
