CEFC Fight Night 240 PBP Commentary


Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Jerome Alviso (ranked 1404 p4p, 174 weight class) and John Brown (ranked 2221 p4p, 254 weight class). Alviso kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Pooh Man-Oakland. Brown comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Some Bodies Gonna Get It kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 wins, 7 losses and 0 draws, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jerome Alviso!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 24 wins, 30 losses and 2 draws, fighting out of Hilo, John Brown!
The judges for this bout are Dillan Fox, Trevor Gratis and William Peck.



The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Brown working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Brown is nestled in close to Alviso, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.

Brown got a little sloppy there for a moment and Alviso has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Brown has managed to get both his arms back between Alviso's legs - danger averted.

Brown drops back looking for a leg! Alviso is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Alviso manages to kick Brown off! Brown jumps back into Alviso's guard.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Alviso had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Brown defends it easily.

In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw Brown working his ground and pound in the gym. So far it seems to be working well.

Alviso has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Brown can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Alviso throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Brown.
Brown misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
It looked like Alviso was looking amped, ready to throw a big counter but didn't commit.
Alviso shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Brown as he avoids it easily.

Brown keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Brown slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range.

A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.

You can see the frustration on Alviso's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Brown lands a big elbow from half guard. That looks like it's hurt Alviso quite badly. Alviso pulls Brown in close trying to recover. Brown postures up and lands two really hard shots that put Alviso on queer street! The ref takes a look and decides to call an end to the fight! Possibly an early stoppage but Alviso doesn't seem to be complaining too much.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:51 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). John Brown!
