Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 5 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Lyle Whitaker!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Aleksandr Mikhailov!
The judges for this bout are Konstantin Menshow, Fedor Mirinova and Aleksei Zolotukhin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Whitaker tries to close the distance and clinch up but Mikhailov swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Whitaker rushes Mikhailov and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Whitaker is trying to break free.
Whitaker has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.
Whitaker looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.
Whitaker slows down the pace here.
Whitaker is trying to maintain a safe position but Mikhailov gets an underhook and turns Whitaker into the cage.

Mikhailov breaks the clinch.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Mikhailov shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Whitaker manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.

Whitaker has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Mikhailov can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Mikhailov is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

Mikhailov working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Whitaker's head.

Whitaker has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Mikhailov can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Whitaker is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

Whitaker really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Mikhailov sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Whitaker's guard.
Mikhailov is looking to advance position but Whitaker won't allow it.

Mikhailov is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.

Mikhailov is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.
Whitaker is looking to control Mikhailov's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Whitaker avoid being mounted?
Mikhailov is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
It looks like Mikhailov might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.
Whitaker is looking to control Mikhailov's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Whitaker avoid being mounted?
Mikhailov takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Whitaker is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Mikhailov wants to work for an arm triangle but Whitaker is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Mikhailov looks to score some points with some ground and pound.
Mikhailov is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.
Mikhailov works his foot free and advances to mount.
Whitaker wants to hold on but Mikhailov pushes him away.

Mikhailov with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.
Oh Whitaker is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!

Mikhailov looking to finish here with some ground and pound. He lands one big shot that has Whitaker covering up... and two more big strikes land, forcing the referee to step in and put and end to proceedings! This fight is all over!
