PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Fransisco Gonzalez (ranked 8087 p4p, 441 weight class) and Carson Wentz (ranked 5856 p4p, 372 weight class). On his way into the cage it seems that Fransisco Gonzalez has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Fransisco Gonzalez seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 7 - 0, fighting out of New York, Fransisco Gonzalez!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Carson Wentz!
The judges for this bout are Alan Glass, Robert Twigg and Daniel Franklin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Gonzalez closes the distance and pushes Wentz back into the cage.
Wentz wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Gonzalez has him pressed against the cage.

Gonzalez breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Wentz throws a body punch but Gonzalez moves out of range.
Wentz lands a two punch combo.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Gonzalez.
Wentz scores with a three punch combo!
Wentz lands a nice shot to the body.
Carson Wentz seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Gonzalez clinches up against the cage.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Gonzalez seems to have come into the fight with the intention of avoiding any damage in the clinch, rather than actually showing any aggression.
Gonzalez using the Thai plumb to throw knees but Wentz has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.

Gonzalez wants to take the fight to the mat but Wentz manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.
The pace slowing considerably in the clinch, as Gonzalez takes a break from that fighting nonsense to think about the finer things in life.

Gonzalez ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Gonzalez no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
Gonzalez is pulling down on Wentz's head. It's preventing any offense from Wentz, at least for the moment.
Wentz wants to stand and escape but instead Gonzalez has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.


Wentz is looking for a triangle but Gonzalez pushes his legs off easily.

Wentz looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Gonzalez tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Wentz keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Wentz ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent.

Gonzalez tries to close the distance and clinch but Wentz swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Fransisco Gonzalez is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Gonzalez shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.
Gonzalez looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple.
Gonzalez looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

and Gonzalez holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.

Wentz really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Gonzalez. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Wentz tries to lock up and control but Gonzalez gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

Gonzalez lands a couple of nice shots there from mount.
BOOM! Gonzalez connects with a massive shot to the dome!
Wentz tries to improve his position but instead Gonzalez has taken his back!

Wentz is staying cool under pressure, defending well against the rear naked choke attempt from his opponent.
Gonzalez is controlling his opponent, waiting for an opportunity to finish.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!


Gonzalez dives in and grabs Wentz's left leg, looking for a takedown. Wentz pushes down on Gonzalez's head and hops out.

Gonzalez shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Wentz's guard.
Wentz is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Gonzalez stands up over Wentz, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
Gonzalez slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

Wentz wants to improve his position but instead Gonzalez has moved into half guard.

Gonzalez has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

Gonzalez decides he's had enough of the ground and stands up.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Wentz circles away from the clinch attempt.
Wentz clobbers Gonzalez with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.
Gonzalez shoots in but Wentz avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Wentz moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.
Gonzalez fails to land the takedown.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Fransisco Gonzalez. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Wentz fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done.

The fight stays on the outside here - Gonzalez looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Wentz wants to counter the offense by Gonzalez and move into the clinch position.
Oh Gonzalez is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Gonzalez walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.
Wentz lands an uppercut out of nowhere! Gonzalez falls backwards - clearly groggy! Wentz dives in and finishes the fight with more strikes for a TKO finish!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:22 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Carson Wentz!
