Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Irwin Owens!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Daniel Cormier!
The judges for this bout are Alan Glass, Wesley Smith and Chris Downing.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Owens is looking to clinch.

Cormier rushes Owens and presses him up against the cage.
Owens wants to take the fight to the mat but Cormier manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.
Owens stops a takedown attempt from Cormier.
Owens could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

Owens has moved round to his opponent's back and is looking for a suplex! Oh snap! He's tossed Cormier clear over his head and slammed him to the mat!
Cormier is trying to get back to his feet but he's not managed it yet.
Cormier trying to control but he's just got himself in more trouble.
A bit of a pause in the action here. Owens controlling the positon.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
You can see the frustration on Cormier's face… He knows he is in trouble unless he improves his position sooner rather than later.
Owens thows a huge left but connects with the canvas and not his opponent.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Cormier tries to roll but Owens sticks to his back.
Owens gets his hooks in and is throwing strikes.
Will Owens go for the finish here or will he try and keep control of the position?
Cormier has his hands over his head blocking the strikes from Owens.
Cormier trying to control but he's just got himself in more trouble.

Owens is staying calm and holding on to the back position, whilst working on a rear naked choke. Cormier is defending well though. Owens let's go of the attempt for now.
Owens is hanging on to Cormier's back as he tries to escape.

Owens not allowing Cormier to control his hands.
Cormier is trying to stand back up.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Owens punches Cormier on the ear.

Cormier is trying to break free.
Owens punches the canvas rather than the man.
Cormier staying busy and making it hard for Owens to control.
Cormier is in bad spot here.
Owens throwing sloppy strikes.
Cormier rolls, trying to escape but Owens keeps control of the position.

Cormier tries to escape the position - he's now mounted. Is that better or worse? Hard to tell!
Owens punching from mount but Cormier doing a good job of avoiding damage.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Cormier is bucking up trying to escape but Owens cracks him with another couple of good strikes.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.



Cormier has Owens up against the cage in a clinch.
Owens softening up his opponent with strikes, against the cage.
Owens looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.
Owens tries to pull guard but Cormier holds him up against the cage and eventually Owens drops back down to his feet.
Owens tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.

Cormier decides to pull guard.
Owens prevents Cormier from getting back to his feet.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Cormier is looking for a triangle here but Owens uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.
Cormier tries to bench press Owens off him but Owens keeps the position.

Cormier explodes and escapes back to his feet! Nice escape there!
Cormier wants to slow Owens down by chopping away at his legs.

Cormier clinches up with Owens and pushes him back against the cage.
Owens is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Cormier is defending well for now.
Owens goes for a takedown attempt but Cormier pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Irwin Owens. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Cormier closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Cormier lands in his opponent's guard.

Owens is looking for a triangle but Cormier pushes his legs off easily.

Cormier prevents Owens from getting back to his feet.
Cormier is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Cormier connects with a couple of short punches.
Owens throwing some rather feeble looking strikes off his back.

Owens wants to stand but Cormier is controlling the position.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Owens tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Cormier swivels and escapes.
Owens showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Cormier.

Cormier throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Owens tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Cormier is in Owens's guard.
Cormier looking to control the position here, rather than advance.

Owens looking to control but Cormier passes into half guard.
Cormier controlling the action here.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Owens wants to stand back up but Cormier manages to pass into side control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Daniel Cormier showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!



Cormier drives through with a takedown into Owens's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.
Owens keeping full guard, as Cormier tries to pass.

Owens has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Cormier can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Cormier controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.

Owens is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

Cormier chips away with some ground and pound.
Cormier stands and throws Owens's legs to the side, diving into side control.

Cormier is trying to get an arm triangle but Owens is defending well.
Cormier wants to control but Owens is keeping him busy.
Cormier scoring with punches and elbows.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Cormier works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head.
Cormier avoids the strikes from the bottom by Owens.
Owens bucks up and tries to throw Cormier off but instead Cormier has got his back!

Owens manages to get to his feet, escaping the difficult position.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Cormier rushes Owens and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.

Cormier escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Cormier throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Owens on the side of the head.


It looks like Irwin Owens has been cut.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Cormier swings for the body but Owens moves out of range.
Whack! Cormier lands a heavy head kick that drops Owens. The ref tackles Cormier to stop the fight - a great save by the referee because Owens was done.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:05 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Head Kick). Daniel Cormier!
During a confident post fight interview, Daniel Cormier thanked all his fans. He seemed very genuine when describing how motivated his fans keep him.
