PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jer Bear (ranked 2867 p4p, 132 weight class) and DJ Augie (ranked 2856 p4p, 130 weight class). Bear comes into the arena with Good Times blaring out of the sound system. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 26 - 34 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Jer Bear!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 14 - 10 - 0, fighting out of New York, DJ Augie!
The judges for this bout are Eddie Farnsworth, Bruno Lombardi and Steve Montenegro.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Bear lands with a straight right. Augie didn't see that one coming.
Bear connects with a good right hand that stumbles Augie. Augie circles away out of range and recomposes himself.
Augie thows a left - swing and a miss!
Augie takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.
Augie throws an ugly left hook that misses

and Bear counters with a takedown into side control! That could mean trouble for Augie!
You can see the frustration on Augie's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Augie is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Bear's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.
Bear wants to pass to mount but Augie is defending the position.
Augie is looking to control Bear's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Augie avoid being mounted?
Bear trying to control the action but Augie is working from the bottom.
Bear looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Augie with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Augie is trying to get back to full guard.

Augie trying to hold on to Bear's head to control him but Bear postures up.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Augie controls Bear momentarily but Bear frees himself.

Bear is working Augie over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
Augie seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Augie wants to sweep but no luck.
Augie is pulling down on Bear's head. It's preventing any offense from Bear, at least for the moment.
Bear wants to control from the top but Augie keeps moving.

Augie escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Bear gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Augie has his hands on Bear's head, controlling the position.
Bear looking to sit in guard and control but Augie gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Augie slips a nice elbow through Bear's hands, connecting with Bear's forehead.
Augie content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
Augie seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Bear does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Augie prevents Bear from improving his position.
Augie landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.

Augie thows a huge punch but Bear dodges it nicely.
Bear is looking to improve his position.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Augie is trying to work for a kimura but Bear is defending well.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Jer Bear will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Augie feints and as Bear raises his hands in defense, Augie changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Bear is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
We've been hearing good reports from Bear's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.
Augie postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Hammerfist, elbow! yells Augie's corner. There ya go! There ya go!

Augie postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Bear is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Augie, into his guard.

Augie bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Bear's guard.

Bear bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Augie's guard.

Augie is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Augie wants to lay and pray for a moment but Bear keeps working.

Augie thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Bear's head.
Augie is looking to take a break and control but Bear is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Augie working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.

DJ Augie has got the better of the ground game so far.

Jer Bear's cut is bleeding quite badly. He's got to try and protect it.
Bear tries to get to full guard but Augie has control of the leg.
Augie is nestled in close to Bear, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.


Jeez, Jer Bear's cut is really nasty now. The referee must be thinking about getting that checked.

The referee calls the doctor in to look at Jer Bear's cut. Oh no, the doctor has called an end to the bout!
