Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Renato Laranja (ranked 5396 p4p, 560 weight class) and Billy Donato (ranked 5150 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Donato throws a lazy head kick

and Laranja counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Laranja is trying to control. Donato wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Laranja tries to pass the half guard into mount. Donato knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.

Donato is defending against the submission attempts here by Laranja.
Laranja is looking to take a break and control but Donato is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Donato is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Donato is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Laranja pulls his head out easily.

Laranja can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Donato is looking to escape.
Laranja wants to take Donato's back here but Donato is holding on to an arm, himself looking to escape.

Laranja jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Donato manages to avoid the submission attempt.
Laranja wants to lay and pray for a moment but Donato keeps working.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Donato prevents Laranja from improving position.
Donato holds on to Laranja's head and controls the position momentarily.
Laranja blocks the strikes from Donato.
Donato is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Laranja off and has taken his back!
Donato keeps control of the position as Laranja tries to break free.
Donato doesn't have the hooks in and Laranja manages to turn into his guard.

Donato is looking for a triangle but Laranja pushes his legs off easily.
Donato is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Laranja is positioning himself well to prevent Donato advancing to mount.
Donato is keen to just control but Laranja is a slippery customer.

Laranja is trying to maintain the position but Donato is very close to passing his half guard.
Laranja is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Donato's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Donato's back!
Donato just trying to survive but Laranja is wriggling into a better position, looking to finish.

Donato tries to escape the position - he's now mounted. Is that better or worse? Hard to tell!
Donato is in all sorts of trouble here.

The sound of bone on bone echoes around the arena as Donato checks a leg kick.
Laranja displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Donato throws out the jab.
Laranja half commits to a counter takedown before pushing away, out of range.
Laranja moves in looking to clinch but Donato pushes him off.

and Laranja counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Laranja.

Donato wants to stall.

Laranja turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Laranja manages to end up in side control.

Donato is controlling the position but Laranja somehow manages to roll and ends up with half guard.
Laranja is concentrating on defense, preventing Donato from advancing position.

Laranja has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Donato is working away from the top position though.
Donato throws a strike but Laranja avoids it easily and moves to full guard.

Laranja has thrown up a leg looking for a triangle. Donato doesn't defend quickly enough and Laranja has managed to lock this one up! Can Donato escape?! NO! He's tapping out! Damn, that was a quick submission - congrats to Laranja on a fantastic submission victory.
