Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Zhao Yu (ranked 4006 p4p, 489 weight class) and King Yelats (ranked 5146 p4p, 568 weight class). Zhao Yu has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Zhao Yu!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, King Yelats!
The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, Jack Bonds and Don Winkell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jab, jab by Yu - just one landing.
Yu thumps Yelats with a low kick.
Yu moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.
Yelats shoots in but no luck this time.
Yu scores with a sloppy right hand. Yelats should have avoided that one.
Yelats defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Yu.
Yu throws a series of punches but Yelats avoids them all with ease.
Yelats shoots in looking for a takedown but Yu manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Yelats's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Yelats lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Yelats.


It looks like Zhao Yu has been cut.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Yelats looking to score a takedown here. Yu is defending well but Yelats drives through and ends up in Yu's guard.
Yu bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Yelats's guard.

Yelats keeping moving, preventing Yu from controlling successfully.
Yelats is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.
Yelats told us pre-fight that he has been working on his escapes in training. Let's see if he can call on some of his new skills to get back to his feet.

Yelats working for a triangle but Yu defends it easily.

Yu throws a big elbow that misses.
Yu wants to control from the top but Yelats keeps moving.
Yu looking to sit in guard and control but Yelats gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Yu wriggles free and stands up.

Yu's corner calls for a 1-2. Yu obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range.
Yu takes a swing at Yelats's ribcage but misses.
Yelats shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Yu as he jumps to the side.
Zhao Yu has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of King Yelats.

Yu bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Yelats is not content to let Yu control the position.
Yu controls the position.
Yelats is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.

Yu seems to be working for a kimura but Yelats defends the submission attempt.
Yu thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Yu not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Yu throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Yelats is staying active underneath Yu, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Yelats is looking for a sweep. Yu is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Yu is looking to stall here but Yelats recovers full guard.
Yu throwing strikes but missing.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Yelats can do anything to dispel that myth.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Yu with a flurry of punches that miss.
Yu has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Yu is stalling in the full guard.
Yu throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Yelats being controlled here, momentarily.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Yelats misses with a takedown attempt - Yu sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

Yelats feints and as Yu raises his hands in defense, Yelats changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Zhao Yu dominated that round.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Yu with a nice looking leg kick. You could hear that one land in a back row.

Yu gets caught flat footed, as Yelats shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Yelats scoring with punches to the head and body.
Yu wants to sweep but no luck.
Yu not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Yu is looking to stand back up... there's a bit of a scramble and Yelats dives into side control.

Yelats tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Yelats scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at Yu to see if he's OK.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Yu sneaks back into half guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Yu has hold of Yelats's hands but Yelats slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.

Yelats seems to be looking for submissions.

Yelats is working for a kimura but Yu is defending it quite comfortably.
Yu trying to hold on to Yelats's head to control him but Yelats postures up.
Yu is doing well to control the position and prevent Yelats from advancing to side control.
Yu is trying to control but can't.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Yelats seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
Yelats working over Yu with some ground and pound. Yu looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.

Yu wants to improve his position but Yelats is controlling well.
Yelats is nestled in close to Yu, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Yu tries to get to full guard but Yelats has control of the leg.

Yelats working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
Yu is trying to maintain the position but Yelats is very close to passing his half guard.

Yelats is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Yu is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Yelats's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Yelats's back!
Yu lands with a couple of good shots - one to the side of the head and one questionable shot that could be viewed as to the back of the head but the referee lets it go.
Yelats trying to get back to his feet but Yu is in full control for now.
Yu misses with an elbow to the head.
King Yelats has got the better of the ground game so far.
Yu biding his time, controlling Yelats.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Yu's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
Yu somehow managing to miss with a strike from the back.

Yu has both hooks in and is working for a choke. Yelats is in real trouble here. Yu gets an arm under the chin and tightens the submission attempt... is this the end? Yes, Yelats is tapping out! Yu wins by rear naked choke!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:57 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Zhao Yu!
After the fight, Zhao Yu was humble in paying tribute to his opponent but made it clear he wants to go on to bigger and better things. It seemed to go down well with the crowd who cheered him loudly.
