PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Ingemar Anders (ranked 2656 p4p, 297 weight class) and Charles Carlyle (ranked 2629 p4p, 296 weight class). Carlyle has chosen Ladies and Gentlemen as his entrance music. Charles Carlyle acknowledges the crowd's support as he enters the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 49 - 38 - 3, fighting out of New York, Ingemar Anders!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 20 - 9 - 1, fighting out of Montreal, Charles Carlyle!
The judges for this bout are Yves DeLean, Ian Loll and Trevor Gratis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Carlyle.
Carlyle slips a jab and a cross from Anders.
Anders scores with a jab. Carlyle acknowledges it with a nod of the head.
Anders wants to clinch.
Carlyle connects with a right hand. Anders shakes it off.
Carlyle connects with a single shot there.
A looping hook to the body misses from Anders. Carlyle does a little dance to reset his feet.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Anders misses with a right hand
enabling Carlyle to counter with a crisp jab.

Carlyle changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Anders looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Carlyle is trying to get an arm triangle but Anders is defending well.
Carlyle taking a break here but Anders is having none of it and regains half guard.

Carlyle works his way into full mount!

Carlyle working for a submission but Anders is keeping him at bay.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Carlyle is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Anders has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Anders!
Anders tries to stand but Carlyle is controlling from the bottom.

Carlyle wants to sweep here but Anders controlling him for the moment.

Carlyle lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Anders is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.

Anders wants to sweep but no luck.
Carlyle wants to control from the top but Anders keeps moving.
Anders pulls Carlyle in to control the position.
Carlyle trying to control the position from guard on top but Anders is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Carlyle wants to pass the guard but Anders is keeping the position.
We've been hearing good reports from Anders's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Carlyle scoring with punches to the head and body.

Carlyle drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Anders dives on top into guard.

Carlyle bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Anders's guard.

Carlyle wants to control from the top but Anders keeps moving.
Carlyle slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

Carlyle drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Anders manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Carlyle has Anders in his guard.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Carlyle has control of Anders's left arm, preventing Anders from doing any damage.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Charles Carlyle dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Carlyle fails to land with a series of punches.
A punch lands to the side of Anders 's head but he takes it in his stride.
Carlyle tries to clinch up but Anders circles away and keeps his distance.
Carlyle lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Carlyle.
Carlyle throws a nice outside leg kick.
Carlyle avoids a kick to the body.
Charles Carlyle seems to be getting the better of the standup.

Anders misses with a lunging right hand
and Carlyle counters with a left to the body.

Anders gets tackled into the cage by Carlyle. Carlyle maintains the clinch.
Carlyle fails to land with a short punch on the inside.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
An uppercut on the inside fails to land for Carlyle.
Carlyle lands a right uppercut that snaps the head of Anders backwards.
Carlyle lands with a short head shot on the inside.

Carlyle has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Anders regains guard immediately.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Anders is on top in guard.


Anders gets to his feet. Carlyle looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

Carlyle uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Anders has time to react.

Carlyle fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Anders, pushing him back against the cage.
Carlyle swings wildly with an uppercut but Anders uses good head movement to avoid it.
Anders doesn't land with the attempted body shot.

Knees to the body from Carlyle.
Carlyle lands with a quick shot inside that doesn't really do much damage.
Carlyle lands a good knee to the midsection. Anders won't want to take too many of those.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Come on Carlyle - let's have some action - none of this stalling nonsense.
Carlyle comes over the top with an elbow. That landed flush.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Carlyle is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Anders's half guard.

Carlyle is working for a kimura from half guard. He's really concentrating on the hold and it's allowed Anders to slip a leg under and get back to full guard.

Carlyle looking to sit in guard and control but Anders gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Carlyle looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.

Charles Carlyle showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!


Carlyle blocks a head kick by Anders.
Carlyle doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.

Anders walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.
A solid leg kick lands there for Carlyle.
Carlyle tries to close the distance and clinch up but Anders swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Carlyle's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Anders connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son.
Anders throws a body punch but Carlyle moves out of range.
Carlyle is trying to avoid his opponent's strikes and get into the clinch.
Carlyle lands a slapping body shot.
Carlyle throws a shot to the body.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Anders tries to move into range but Carlyle moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand.

Carlyle bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Anders is trying to get back to half guard.
Carlyle taking a break here but Anders is having none of it and regains half guard.
Carlyle working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
Carlyle content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
Anders is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Anders is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Anders is squirming around, avoiding Carlyle's attempts to control the action.
Carlyle is landing with some decent strikes but Anders is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.
Anders wants to hold on but Carlyle pushes him away.
Charles Carlyle has got the better of the ground game so far.

Charles Carlyle comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Carlyle has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
