Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Galen Dall (ranked 4 p4p, 1 weight class) and Volya Nikolaev (ranked 39 p4p, 7 weight class). Dall's entrance music is Red - Already Over. A fine choice. Nikolaev has chosen Fever as his entrance music. I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Volya Nikolaev was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the lightweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 48 wins, 31 losses and 0 draws, fighting out of St Petersburg, Volya Nikolaev!
The judges for this bout are Percy O'Donnell, Timothy Bukovac and Frank Antenori.



The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nikolaev scores with a punch to the gut of his opponent.
Dall keeps Nikolaev at a distance using the push kick.
Dall lands with a straight right. Nikolaev didn't see that one coming.
Nikolaev on the wrong end of a vicious looking body shot.
Nikolaev wants to clinch up but Dall keeps it at a distance.
A little feinted left hand from Dall on the counter but he doesn't commit to it.
Nikolaev moves out of range of the strikes.
Dall explodes with a nice body kick and back out of range. Nice work.
Dall doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.
Dall swings for the body but Nikolaev moves out of range.
Dall looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
Dall uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Nikolaev.
Dall is looking to counter punch.
Dall drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles.

Nikolaev looking for a takedown here - he's got it.
Nikolaev looking to sit in guard and control but Dall gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Nikolaev is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Dall trying to control the position from guard on top but Nikolaev is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Dall stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Nikolaev swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Nikolaev is looking to sweep but instead, Dall has passed into half guard.

Nikolaev is looking for a sweep. Dall is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Dall tries to pass the half guard into mount. Nikolaev knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Nikolaev has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Dall is working away from the top position though.
Dall prevents Nikolaev from improving his position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Dall is working for a kimura but Nikolaev is defending it quite comfortably.

Dall is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Nikolaev is surviving well by controlling Dall's body position as best he can.

Dall is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Nikolaev doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Dall.

Nikolaev throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Dall sees it coming and avoids it easily.

Nikolaev is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Dall's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Dall's back!

You can see the frustration on Dall's face… He knows he is in trouble unless he improves his position sooner rather than later.
Our spies down at at St Petersburg MMA Gym inform us that Nikolaev has really been working on his submissions in the buildup to this fight. Will it pay off?

Volya Nikolaev showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Dall misses with a head kick.

Dall gets tackled into the cage by Nikolaev. Nikolaev maintains the clinch.

Dall breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Dall misses the shot to the body.
Nikolaev walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.

Nikolaev misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.

Nikolaev has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Dall is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Dall has thrown up a leg looking for a triangle. Nikolaev doesn't defend quickly enough and Dall has managed to lock this one up! Can Nikolaev escape?! NO! He's tapping out! Damn, that was a quick submission - congrats to Dall on a fantastic submission victory.
