PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between CJ Ray (ranked 3793 p4p, 469 weight class) and Ogg Bogg (ranked 4057 p4p, 489 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Ray might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Indestructable - Disturbed. Ogg Bogg has the power to score a knockout today if he connects clean with CJ Ray's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, CJ Ray!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Ogg Bogg!
The judges for this bout are Phil Schofield, Andrew Berry and Paul Tew.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

It looks like Ogg Bogg has been cut.
Bogg avoids a punch combination nicely.
Bogg looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Ray is fending him off so far but Bogg persists. Nope, Ray circles away and we're back to standing.
Ray misses with a few strikes there.
Bogg uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Ray.
Ray tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Bogg paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Bogg tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Ray swivels and escapes.
Ray stuffs the takedown attempt from Bogg. Bogg gets slowly back to his feet.
Ray seem to be loading up, looking for a big counter.
CJ Ray has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Ogg Bogg.
Bogg takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.

Bogg closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Bogg lands in his opponent's guard.
Ray is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Bogg wants to control but Ray is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Bogg wants to improve his position but Ray is controlling well.

Ray tries to stand but his arm is trapped.
Ray content to control rather than advance.
Bogg has been taking part in the yoga sessions down at NYC Alpha (Conditioning and Sparring Gym). Presumably he's going to look for a slick submission... Or maybe he's looking to avoid one.
Bogg is trying to control but can't.

Ray will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Ray is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.
Ray has improved his flexibility recently so we will have to see if he can use that to his advantage.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Bogg is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Ray scores with a couple of nice shots.
Bogg regains full guard. Nicely done.

Bogg has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Ray can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Bogg is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Ray looking to control the position here, rather than advance.

Bogg had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Ray defends it easily.
Ray knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Bogg on the ground.

Ray got a little sloppy there for a moment and Bogg has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Ray has managed to get both his arms back between Bogg's legs - danger averted.

Ray controls the pace of the fight for a moment.

Bogg working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Ray doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Ray manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Ray chips away with some ground and pound.

Bogg is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Bogg looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Ray is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Ray is looking to stand up but Bogg won't let him.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Bogg throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Ray escapes and throws Bogg's legs to the side, diving into side control!
You can see the frustration on Bogg's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Bogg is looking to regain half guard here but Ray keeps moving and retains side control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

CJ Ray dominated that round.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Bogg avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
And Bogg tries to counter it with a takedown but Ray pushes his down on his head and steps out.
Bogg shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Ray as he jumps to the side.

Bogg shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.

Ray manages to create a bit of space in order to work his way back to his feet. Bogg keeps hold of his opponent and drives him back against the cage.
Ray is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Bogg can do to turn this around?

Ray is trying to break the clinch but Bogg is controlling him.
Bogg blocks a punch to the side of the head.
A real battle for position is taking place between these two warriors.

Bogg decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
CJ Ray overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Bogg is trying to control the action in half guard but Ray is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

Bogg is just content to waste time from the top position. Ray takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.

Bogg drops back, looking for a kneebar! Ray looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Ray looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Ray!

Bogg is looking for a sweep.
Bogg tries to slip a leg under to move to half guard but Ray presses down on the leg and jumps into full mount!
Ray prevents Bogg from getting the reversal.
Ray tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.

Bogg is looking to get to half guard.
Ray wants to control the action but instead Bogg gets a body lock and reverses into Ray's guard! Nice work!

Bogg postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Ray is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Bogg, into his guard.


Bogg has his foot on Ray's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Ray works his way back into a safe position though.

Ray is looking to stand up but Bogg won't let him.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Ray in particular looking to stall.
Ray has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!


Bogg shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Ray pinned against the cage. Ray gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Bogg tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Ray defends well and Bogg ends up having to push Ray into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.

Ray throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Bogg.
Bogg closes the distance and clinches up with Ray, looking for a takedown. Bogg pushes Ray against the cage but Ray circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
CJ Ray has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Ogg Bogg.
Ray throws a low kick, looking for Bogg's leg but Bogg calmly moves out of range.

Bogg bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Bogg shoots for a double leg takedown but Ray sprawls well. He's pushed Bogg's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
The sound of bone on bone echoes around the arena as Bogg checks a leg kick.
Bogg drops down looking to force a counter takedown but Ray defends it well.
Ray is using his height advantage well here, landing a good percentage of his punches.

Bogg is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Ray defends it well.

Ray holds on for dear life, maintaining half guard for now.
Bogg wants to lay and pray for a moment but Ray keeps working.
Ray is trying to stand.

Bogg is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Ray is trying to stand up here but Bogg is controlling him well.
CJ Ray is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Bogg is keen to just control but Ray is a slippery customer.

Bogg is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Bogg is looking for the mount but instead finds himself back in full guard.

Bogg drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Ray manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Bogg has Ray in his guard.

Bogg has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Ray is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Bogg.
Bogg tries to bench press Ray off him but Ray keeps the position.
Ogg Bogg has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

CJ Ray showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Ray has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
